I took some video with my Canon S1 digital camera and downloaded the video on to my computer. I can play the resulting .avi files just fine in Windows Media Player. I want to edit them, however, and whenever I try to load one of these files into Adobe Premiere I get an error message that says the file format is unsupported. I installed the Panasonic DV codec, cause I thought that might help, but no go. Any ideas? Thanks.

Not being a DV camera it would use MJPEG and not DV, at least I think my powershot G5 does.
So install a MJPEG codec. If you want something free, try ffdshow.
You should also be able to open it in VirtualDub as it has a built in MJPEG decoder. -
Many people report that Windows Movie Maker 2 will work if the Canon camera software installs both the MJPEG decoder and encoder.
