    Hi:

    I apologize if this has been asked in the past but I’ve searched the forum for related threads and found only one that did not work out.

    I have just acquired the following hardware and I would like to see the effects of what I’m changing before I record anything to the DVD recorder but I can not find the correct cable sequence that works and have been trying for hours to get up and running but with no luck.

    My hardware.

    JVC-S9600U to a
    Data video TBC-1000 to a
    Elite Video BVP-4 Plus Proc Amp to a
    Pioneer DVR-220 DVD recorder to a
    20 " RCA TV with input of mono L, right, viedo.

    My Set up:

    VCR S-Video Out -->TBC S-Video In

    TBC S-Video Out -->BVP-4 S-Viedo In

    BVP-4 S-Viedo Out-->DVD Writer S-Video In

    VCR audio Out (red and white) -->DVD Writer audio In (red and white)

    DVD Writer audio & video Out-->TV audio & video In.

    Next week I will get a Sign Video DR-1000 and a Sony GVM-1311Q Monitor.

    This setup does not allow me to get a picture, or watch my VHS tape, or control any of the BVP-4 controls.

    Can some one please spell out the wiring sequence on how to hook these up now and in my future? Everything I’ve tried doesn’t work.

    Thanks for those who help out newbie’s.

    Lordsmurf thanks for the reply. However this set up does not allow me to see anything on the TV. I’ll put in a VHS tape, hit play, and see nothing but a blue screen. Do I have something turned off somewhere?

    My understanding is I should see a picture, then make any BVP-4 adjustments and see what I'm changing on the TV. Once happy, hit record on the DVD player. No luck. Can’t get anything to work. Any ideas?

    Thanks for the help.

  4. Did you put the switch in the back of the BVP to the S-Video input setting?

  5. Did you select the right input on your tv? You might have to cycle through the input selects on your tv then on your dvd recorder.

    I’ve set the input on the BVP-4 to S-Video with no luck. The TV I’m using right now only has video in and the two audio inputs. (Yellow, red and white). Confusing I know.

    Thanks

    Have you set the "Input Select" (or Input Source) on your DVD Writer to the correct source number?

    Or does your DVD writer only have on input source?

  8. I think you can run composite and s-video outputs of the BVP-4 at the same time... you could try running the composite out to the TV and the s-video to the recorder. It seems like the composite output of the recorder should work as well, though. That would be preferable because then you can use the Pioneer 220's MPEG2 encoding preview feature to select the bitrate and tweak your image to see what the final output will look like. The composite video out of the Pioneer is slightly softer than the s-video out, though.

    I notice you are changing from s video to composite outputting from pioneer recorder. You may have to go to pioneer setup menu and disable s video output to output composite, or try the s video out of pioneer to a tv with s video input, to see if you have any signal. Also consider stepwise output of each item in your chain from start to finish direct to tv to see where you lose your signal.

    Hi Folks:

    Thanks to all that are assisting me in this.

    Gshelley61: S-Video out from BVP-4 to S-Video in on DVD recorder. Composite Video out from BVP-4 to TV input. This works. But I have no sound. However bypassing the recorder I’m losing the encoding preview feature like you said.

    Anzimike: Went to setup menu on my Pioneer DVR-220 and can not find any way to disable S-Video output.

    Rkgibbons: Can’t find input select on my set up menu on the recorder.

    I think I have some feature turned off that I need on in the recorder. That’s why I am having a hard time with the correct sequence. Just haven’t found out what is yet.

    Thanks again for the help.

    It's on the remote - to the right of the number keys.

    You can run the L/R audio outputs from the VCR straight to the audio inputs on the DVD recorder. No need to have them "pass through" any of the other processors (most don't have audio inputs/outputs anyway). Then run the audio outputs fromt the DVD recorder to your TV.
