Alexander Hannf, a UK owner of the DVDR-Core domain name and its server has received a lawsuit by a movie studio worker for the MPAA early on a Saturday morning for suspect copyright infringement of movies.

Who in their right minds buys a domain name and a host server and lets someone they don't know run the site?

Thats like giving someone your credit cards and saying here handle my finances for me please.

"I am certainly not going to settle for anything that will compromise my integrity or the integrity of our members," Hanff said. "They can bankrupt me. I don't own a house, so they can't take it. I own a few guitars that they can have and an old inkjet printer. It's a waste of their time and of my time."

    LMFAO!!!!
    What a goof.

  4. Much as I hate the actions of the MPAA etc. against their consumers, in this case it couldn't happen to a more deserving guy!

  7. Naked Geek's site? He was selling DVD-Rs that he promoted here at VideoHelp as being amongst the best quality media available. It was using a dye known to be pretty poor quality, and he insisted it was good.

He wouldn't and probably couldn't back up his claims. Instead, he settled for being incredibly offensive and obnoxious to his new customer base. What a way to run a business!

I think he swapped to Taiyo Yuden, which is one of the best dyes out there. I still wouldn't buy from him after the way he treated everyone.

He was banned from here, by the way, but sometimes re-registers just to cause trouble.

He figures that BitTorrent Hubs should be just as legal as other P2P services since they only link and not host the infringing content, thus if Torrent hub owners can get sued, then why are Google, Yahoo and other search engines not getting sued for linking to copyright infringing sites?
    that's interesting isn't it?

I didn't know about naked geek at all but the name does ring a bell

  9. So funny, the MPAA may suck donkey balls but they've made me laugh this time.

I read a similiar report and saw the name "Alexander Hannf" and it soundes familiar, but I couldn't place it! Now I remember where I heard it before!

He makes an interesting point in that article about the similarity between bittorrent sites and search engines that link to sites with illegal content.

  12. Interesting, but irrelevant. Search engines will point you towards sites where Torrents exist. There are legal uses for BitTorrent. The sites themselves, or the users who put stuff on them, are the ones to blame.

It won't stand up in court. He is obviously not the sharpest knife in the drawer...

This re-inforces my opinion that stupidity IS a crime, hehe. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. But, he is right about one thing ... that bankrupting him will not net the MPAA anything of value. And after bankruptcy, he can just go on with his life (a little smarter, hopefully). Besides, unless laws are radically different than they are on this side of the pond, bankruptcy generally doesn't allow creditors to come into your home and sieze incidental personal property unless it has great value. A home theater system? Maybe. But not a toaster, used guitars, or things such as those.

It's clear the MPAA is just doing this for publicity purposes ... as a "loss-leader" case that will cost them much more than they get from this guy. The guy is just a "poster boy."

  19. He thinks he'll escape punishment because he hasn't got anything to give them. I believe that is why we have prisons, and I hope they use them.

I think someone needs to inform him that not having anything of value NOW just means that he'll have to pay them later rather than sooner. As judgment creditors they can most likely garnish his wages. A Court can force him to get a job and force him to pay part of his salary to the MPAA each paycheck. Bankruptcy generally cannot get you out of paying personal debts resulting from copyright infringement or a criminal act.

This guy is in for a world of hurt.

Most countries with copyright law have criminal statutes governing various acts of infringement if it is done wilfully, and usually maliciously. It starts with the civil suit, but then the government can press charges if they want.

If he winds up in prison, the name Naked Geek is going to take on a totally different meaning.

  24. At least he hasnt changed, still the same pshyco lame arguments he has used before, no relevance to reality as usual, impossible to talk reason to him. I would like to know what he told the journalist that didnt get on print .
He promised me a long and nice stay in prison last year for being "just as stupid as capmaster and the others", lets hope he will be the one to do time for all of us, for being more stupid. Great news anyway!
