i've been recording dvd-rw's on my standalone dvd recorder today (on dvd-rw's in dvd-video mode).. i was bring them to my PC and extracting the video to mpeg with tmpgenc mpeg editor.. everything was going fine and then it just stopped reading the discs correctly. it says the discs are 0 bytes, with 0 bytes free. the discs play in my dvd player's, dvd recorder, and a dvd-rom drive in another computer just fine.. but i need to edit the video on the computer with the dvd burner.. i've tried deleting the drive from the device manager, restarting multiple times, disabling/uninstalling anydvd, disconnecting & re-connecting the drive.. no luck.. the drive will recognizes the disc as a dvd-rw disc just fine, but it doesnt display the VIDEO_TS folder like it should.. tried iso buster with no luck.. it will read all my other discs, even dvd-rw discs that i recorded with my dvd burner with data on them.. its just like it doesnt want to mess with the discs burned with the standalone anymore..

the drive is a benq 1620

and yes, the discs are finalized

In my opinion those brands aren't the best to use. Try using Maxell DVD-RW that uses media id MCC01RW11n9.

Your player doesn't like those discs.

see, i'd agree with you here.. but the thing is all of my other devices read the discs just fine.. and my dvd burner will read from and write to the discs just fine.. except after they've been burned by the standalone. they were working, then it just stopped.. i'm thinking its a software thing.. i'm about 10 minutes away from creating an acronis image of my c: drive & restoring a clean install of xp to see if it is.. i think i just might do that..

well i'm starting to think the burner has gone out..

i restored an acronis image that had a clean installation of windows xp pro w/ sp2 intergrated (windows updates & acronis installed only), popped in the disc and it wouldnt read it.. tried downgrading the firmware from B7T9 to B7P9, restarted, still wouldnt work.

tried a new dvd-rw disc that i recorded on the standalone, played in my other dvd players & dvd-roms, but not the benq1620.. i'm thinking something inside the drive broke.
