  1. Hello everyone! I have a DVD player Pioneer 656A and i inttend to buy a DVDwriter to my PC. I want the best compatibility in both players, then, what do you suggest? I read about Pioneer 109 is having some problems with firmaware but the 108 model does not record DVD-R dual layer. So, i ask help to you! Thanks in advance!
    PS: Pioneer will lauch new DVD writer soon? when?

  2. Just get the 109. It won't be long 'til my 108 is an antique.

  3. The Pioneer DVR-108 does write to DVD-R DL media. I have one and have burned about 5 DL discs. Haven't had a problem yet. The only differences I see between the 109 and the 108 are: 109 writes DL media at 6x, where as the 108 on writes a 4x. Other than that I think the are identical.

  4. Sorry. I'm wrong. I read the post a little too fast. You're right, it doesn't write to dvd-r dl media; just dvd+r dl media.

    You have to choose between the last model of a proven burner design or choose to go with the first run of a completely new enclosure. I also had that choice to make and chose to go with the proven design (108D). I updated the F/W to v1.18 from Gradius and everything is working like a charm .... auto bitsetting to DVD ROM with +R media is a big benefit of that F/W.
