This spun off of another thread in DVD Recorders, and I should get more help here, so I hope it's not considered a crosspost...

Is there any way to fix the compliance issues for some DVDs authored in DVD-Lab (possibly in IFOedit)? The specific problem I'm having is the disc stuttering during playback in one of my players.

    Thanks,
    -David

  2. Sounds like a problem with the disc media or the player. What has you convinced that DVD-lab is to blame?

DVD Lab does have compliance issues.
Based on your other thread, that sounds like what you are experiencing. As far as a fix, no idea. I stopped using DVD Lab a long time ago....due to this problem.

I've yet to see it, and I've authored quite a few in both standard and now Pro. Have you checked the bitrate of your assets ? If they get too high players can exhibit this type of behaviour. Some here say as low as 9000 can cause problems with some players.

You can try MuxMan. If there are errors in your files it will warn you with the error description. If it is fatal error it will reject the files.

How many minutes is your video, and how much space does it take up on the disc? Can you list the attributes of your video: mpeg-1 or mpeg-2, resolution, bitrate, audio type. If your mpegs are VBR, run it through DLP's Tools/Bitrate Viewer to see info about its bitrates.

What type of disc are your writing to? It could be a media compatibility issue with your dvd player and the media you are using.

Have you applied the DLP Patches:

Did you use the burning tool in DLP, or some other burning software to burn your dvd?

Some folks have issues when they put a sticky label on their dvd's -- there's so many things it could be...

  7. If anything, DLP is more compliant now than past releases.
Like George said, too many variables to just blame DLP.

Well, I emailed MediaChance's support and got this reply:

What was the audio type? Did you use standard version or PRO version? You
may try to use Alternative muxer if you used Standard version this may fix
    the stuttering.
We have two different software DVD-lab and DVD-lab PRO. The DVD-lab PRO is
always tested with industry tools for compliance. The Standard version is
for home use where strict compliance is not the number one issue and in
many cases it is not even desired (some users wants to burn DVB mpegs, VRO
mpegs, TiVo processed files - and these are all non-compliant files).
Very soon we will replace the DVD-lab with DVD-lab Studio - a new entry
level authoring that is based on the PRO code (so it will carry its
compliance), it will have 2 audio channels and 1 subtitle.
So I DLed the trial of Pro, opened my project in it, compiled it, burnt it, and voila, problem-free.

Now to wait for Studio, I guess...
