I have a Nec 2510a now and it has worked perfect everytime i have used it. I only use Verbatim DVD discs and i have not made any coaster yet.
The prices here on the new Nec 3520 has become very low now.

    So my question is:
Does the 3520 have any advantage over the 2510a other then the burning speed?
Or should i keep my older 2510a for awhile longer?

Here is some details on the Nec 3520 :-

ND-3520A is the first model in the market who can write both DVD -R and DVD +R in dual layers, which was previously was only possible in the DVD +R9 format. With ND-3520A it is now possible for rewritable RW discs to be burned with the highest speed so far in the market, 8x for DVD +RW and 6x for DVD-RW respectively. The speed of writing with dual layers is 4x.

I am still using the Nec 2500a which has been flashed with Herrie's 1.09 so that it can burn +dual layer. But I haven't bought any dual-layer yet. When it is more reliable perhap's I will.
Like your 2510 my 2500 burn's perfectly every time, over 1000 succesfull burn's so far. If I were you I would get your money's worth out of the 2510, and wait for the problem's associated with dual-layer to be sorted out before upgrading. By then Nec will have an even better burner available.

Invest in the newer burner cause it will most likely work better with the newer media thats coming out, keep the older one for ripping and burning questionable dvds.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

  4. I've got a 2510/2500, it's an awesome burner. I have no desire to burn faster than 8x and it's got great support for any media I've used with it. I'd say just stick with the 2510 if you're happy with it. The one nice thing about the 3500 and 3520 is that they now support PI/PO reading, which is a nice feature to have for testing your discs' quality.

I have several burners including a 2510a and I would say there is really very little to gain by upgrading. Even with my 16X burner, I only burn at 8X for quality. As far as faster RW burning goes I don't really care as I don't use rewritable media so RW speed isn't a factor. By the way, what does 8X +RW cost? It's will probably be too expensive just like DL media. Look at how you actually use your drive and decide, not what cool features the new drives support.

    Thank you for your answers.

Well, dual layer discs are too expensive now and i really dont have any use for them yet.
I also use Verbatim DVD+RW 4x and they work very well.

The burning speed is not important to me but the burning quality is.
And so far every disc i have burned with my 2510a has worked without problems.
I will continue to use the 2510 until it starts to get problems.
    Sooner or later everything breaks.

    Thanks again.
