I just got back from COMPUSA and they were sold out of the VERBATIM DL DVD+R media. I passed on the MEMOREX since the media id is RITEK. Thanks for posting the media cod on the MEMOREX.

CompUSA sucks. If they have this sale, it shouldn't be too much longer before others start having one too.

    koolaidwa,

You should set your LiteOn 1633@1653 with CSTJ to auto book type.

I have the same drive LiteOn 1633 crossflashed to 1653 with CSTJ. But today I crossflashed it to previous firmware CSO9 because I have Nvidia chipset on my motherboard. And CSO9 is the only firmware that does auto bitsetting with Nvidia chipset. So, now all my DVD+Rs are burnt with DVD-ROM book type automatically. I didn't try DVD+RW yet.

but it does play on one standalone player of mine a older apex 3+ years old that wont play +r, werid

but next time i will try booktyping it to dvd-rom as i forgot to cause i thought it did for DL auto,

    Nice Price!

However, I burned a DL copy and a standard DVD+R copy of the
last few movies I've backed-up. Seems that the only difference that
my family notices is that the DL disc regularly hangs-up at the layer
split point (it's our player, not a disc problem), other than that I'm
the only one who notices the image quality
    is better.

So why spend $4 a disc if almost nobody notices the improvement?

DL media was not made for people to backup 1:1 copies of movies. Some of us make our own content and have more legitimate uses than "backing up" stuff.

    That's why.

On your "why buy for backups?" question, it just depends. For movies, you probably have a point, for full episode discs, DL is easily higher quality with no compression.

I found some national bargains but was wondering where to post them. I think there should be a category for current bargains/sales so we can all post ones we find.

Making a 1:1 backup of a pressed DVD original one owns is a legitimate use according to the Fair Use Act, which this DMCA nonsense seems to have stepped all over...

Bought 3 today. Used one to backup a game that has been customized over the past 4 years that got too big for a single layer disk. Media code through DVDInfopro shows RITEK D01.

  19. They were out of Memorex and substituted Verbatim for me. I have never seen them as low $11.97, so I picked up 4 packs (12 discs). Can't wait to burn on DL for the first time. Should not have any problem bitsetting to "DVD-ROM" since I flashed my Pioneer 108 with Piodata firmware, it now sets the booktype automatically on all "+" media. I won't pick up the 109 until there is a similar f/w for it.

I'm pretty sure the 109 is DVD-ROM by default too.

For DL, yes, but not on DVD+R5 or DVD+RW. I know, just burn on "-" media, but out of my 5 players, 2 are a bit older and only play media set to DVD-ROM.
