  1. I am a complete newbie to all of this. I own a Sony TRV22 and I want to get the movies of our vacation onto DVD. I have read all of the posts, and seem to grasp some of it, but can someone give me a step by step account of what I need to do to get this onto DVD in DVD quality? I am looking for no loss of quality, and most posts I have read seem to indicate making it into a different format. I am a firm believer of K.I.S.S.
I also do not know what Mpeg2 or Mpeg4 and everything else means. I do know that when I bought this camera the salesman said you can burn them into a disc with no problems. He meant VCD with really bad picture quality.
I have WinXP, a 250 Gig HD, and just put in my firewire card. I am ready to go but need a little help 1st.
    Thanks!!

  2. Get the video onto your computer in DV-AVI format, via the firewire.
You need capture software to do this.
Look on the left, under HOW TO CAPTURE, and you'll find guides.
Also look under TOOLS, and search for CAPTURE in the software dropdown box. There's over 30 to choose from, most free.
You will need an encoder to encode the avi into mpeg-2, as mpeg-2 is the ONLY format for DVD.
Once it's encoded, you will need to author the mpeg-2 into DVD structure.
Again, look under HOW TO AUTHOR for plenty more on that.
When you have specific questions about any portion of the procedure, post back, and we'll be able to help you much more.

    Gentle nudge:

352 by 240 MPEG1 is also valid for DVD. You might like or dislike the results but it is valid.

    Cheers

Another reason to use 352 by 240 MPEG1 is that TMPGEnc Plus need not be bought for mpeg1 encodes. and can be burned to CDs if no DVD Burner available.

  4. I forgot to mention I have Adobe Premire Pro, but it seems complicated. In looking at the tutorials it seems this is an all in one capture, edit, burn program. Anybody have experience with this program? I am not really looking to edit, just want to copy the whole tape onto DVD. About 60 mins worth.
