Hi guys,
I'm having an interesting problem right now. In my house, we have five PCs linked via. a switched 10/100Base-T hub, and our Internet router plugged into that hub so we can all get access. Normally file transfers are pretty quick over the network, but I am crawling at about 500KB/sec. I have 40GB to transfer...
We have checked everything we can think of - both the network cards are set to 100Mbps full-duplex, firewalls disabled/removed... Nothing is working right. Whether I tell it to copy from my computer to my housemates, or if he tells his PC to do the copy, it doesn't matter. Still very slow.
Has anyone seen this before?
Thanks!
Cobra

I'd recommend a switch over a hub personally. Looking at the hub, can you tell if you're getting collisions?
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore. -
I have green blinking lights. I'm afraid that's all though!
Thanks for your reply, Viral. I appreciate your reading my question. -
A number of things can cause this condition. All of the machines need to be checked for Worms and Viruses. If even one machine is doing a Denial of Service attack, it will saturate the network connection.
Pull one machine off of the network at a time and see if the problem goes away.
Lastly, try half duplex and see if it helps. Sometimes, it does. -
Thank you for the suggestion, Soopafresh. I'll check it tomorrow - we're all a bit too drunk to do anything like that tonight.

IMO, best for Peer to Peer
switch instead of a hub
make sure your LMhost file has ever computer name and IP in it (set everyone to static)
Make sure you virus scanner isn't scanning the file being transfer (Norton is real bad for this)
Make sure your software firewall have all computers in the trusted area
Normally file transfers are pretty quick over the network, but I am crawling
If it worked good before, then something changed. I would also unplug every computer except for the ones doing the transfering to see if that changes anything. Plus I would try to do a transfer between 2 other PCs to see if they are faster. Check all your wiring too. Did someone roll over a cable with a caster wheel and didn't realize it?
Well that should keep you busy enough for awhile
