When watching video in virtual dub when pressing down the right arrow to go forwards i notice lines but then when i skip individually very slowly the lines arent there, is this interlaced and is interlaced caused from codecs being in the wrong place??

Everybody has pet peeves. When it comes to video, mine is people that mindlessly de-interlace interlaced footage. Too many users just hit the "go" button in their software, and never consider the source, the capture method or the actions of the software. Recording in the wrong format will look bad and lose quality.
i thought no didigtal video formats could loose quality?????????
Can you answer the question cos im too stupud to understand these complicated words on that site i really am dead stupid..
But i thought digital has no quality loss??
And why is the picture interlaced when it wasnt before, isit codecs cuasing it?? -
It sounds like you have a movie that has been telecined for broadcast on NTSC television. This usually results in a pattern of three clear frames followed by two interlaced frames, repeated over and over.
Digital formats let you copy files losslessly. But if you decode and reencode with lossy codecs like DV, MPEG, MJPEG, etc. you will lose quality. There are some lossless codec but they don't compress very well, in the 2:1 range. -
ok but if i had codecs on and they wrre decreasing the quality, then i uninstalled all the codecs would i get my good qiality movies back??
thanks for the info mate
VCD's seem to be interlaced is this a bad rip or bad codecs??
Ive got this other problem i dont know if its interlaced but when playing divx i watch the film and there bits of the picture that look like theyve been cut and stuck somewhere else it only lasts 1 sec and temporarily it happens but its not lines as close together as inyerlaced is theyre kind of 1 cm apart but its wierd looking at it. i think again its codec related as this didnt happen on any other pco n that exact same film. -
Sometimes you get codecs "fighting" each other to play a file. For example Divx, Xvid, can usually play each other's files. Your system may be set up to use Divx to play Xvid files, but sometimes there's an Xvid file (usually from an old version) that Divx can't play properly. So removing codecs, or updating to the latest version, can sometimes help playback. Your description of your Divx file problem sounds like this kind of error (not related to interlace). Or it could just be a corrupt file.
VCD is not interlaced. SVCD can be. -
thank you and while im here ill ask u this..
someone said " Your movie cannot be played as it must be becasue:
Your player's playback settings, your player quality also the quality of movie you are playing, Video Card, Video card settings (pixels), your VGA shared memory and so on.."
all these issues can be solved cant they by changing the video card.. -
If you have a Geforce MX440 (like your profile says) a new video card will not make much difference.
-
not much difference to the plaayback of the movie itself ru talking about quality??
But it shd always play the same with no degradion shdnt it?? cos its digital, do u mean it might affect it cos some graphics cards aint that good and they wldnt display anything good like even in windows..?? -

One issue that could be effecting you: some codecs and media players can deinterlace on the fly while playing a video. Look for deinterlace settings and play with them to see if any look better than others.
