I have many NTSC (23/29 fps) avi's i want to view as SVCDs on a PAL only TV, can i convert the framerate to 25 fps before burning the mpeg2 file, hence getting rid of the jerkyness?

  2. NTSC To PAL conversion is a very messy topic, just remember that chances are your DVD player can handle the NTSC and if you've used scart leads your TV will play it I'm uk myself so I know these things ) All I can suggest is do a test burn as NTSC and see if it works, if not then we'll move onto the hard stuff.

  3. For NTSC Film (23.976) just speed it up one frame, use cool edit to adjust audio so it does not go out of sync. Simple, works well for PAL to NTSC conversion (which slows it frame per sec down and slows audio) and I'm guessing it would work well the other way around.

right i burnt a NTSCfilm avi to NTSCfilm SVCD template in tmpmpg, using the PAL playback on my dvd player its in colour, there is some block noise, and its jerky every second.

Playback the same SVCD using NTSC playback on my dvd player the picture is black and white but the resolution is sharp (no block noise) and its very smooth.

My tv cannot handle the NTSC signal (hence black and white), either i invest in a tv that can handle ntsc playback or....?

  5. Scart lead, the above suggestion or go to videotools.net and get avisynth, the manual has a nice script for converting NTSC > PAL and with some editing you can go the other way.
