does anybody know if there is any degradation in video quality since it's opening the DV file, adding the date/time stamp, then saving the DV file again?
DV is not a lossless codec.....right?
Thanks

My question was regarding Visual DV time stamp program.
Is there any quality loss in the video after it adds the date/time stamp?
ThanksArturo -
arstocker,
I don't know what exactly do you want to do, but I use DV_datecode to extract timecodes from .avi to .txt file and run some home made perl scripts that transform it into .sub which I use subtitles. No transcoding, subtitles can be turned on/off.
Hope I'm not totally off topic.
Cheers!

Thanks for your reply, jozef_hlavaty.
I am trying to add my time stamp to my DV videos with Visual DV Time Stamp but it looks like it reencodes the video again after it processes the AVI file.
I was looking at DV_Datecode and that would be the best thing (to have it as subtitles) but I couldn't figure out how to make the subtitles out of the text file in my DVD authoring program. Could you please tell me how do you do it?
ThanksArturo -
Hi arstocker,
my way of converting DV datecodes into DVD subtitles is very specific. I think it would not be usable for you.
I'd suggest you to use DV Sub Maker to extract DV datecodes to .sub subtitles. Then use Subtitle Workshop to convert .sub subtitles into desireable format (File -> Open, File -> Save As). E.g. you can convert to SubRip (.srt), then using Srt2Sup convert to .sup and finally mux using IfoEdit.
If you really want to see what exactly I do you can donwload attached file dvsubtools.zip. You'll need PERL (www.activestate.com) and Allen Day's Video-Info-0.993 (www.cpan.org). The scripts are total mess. Sorry. I'm not a good coder.
Cheers.

vDTS is not that bad unless you want to stamp each and every frame in your video. I generally stamp first few seconds of every clip.

jeet49,
usually I use 3 subtitle tracks on my DVDs:
1. DV datecodes
2. my comments (place's names, notes, etc.)
3. merged DV datecodes with my comments, where comments have priority over DV datecodes (i.e. comments are "padded" with DV datecodes).
Subtitles can be turned on/off on the DVD player during playback.
I like your idea to show datecode during first seconds of each clip.
Thanks!
