Since installing AOL Broadband i have experienced half the advertised speed.

I am very disappointed and annoyed, especially paying monthly for a connection that's going half of what it should.

After doing that speed test it says my max download speed is 29 kb/s.

We have 2 broadbands in this house each being seperate connections, no routers involved at all.

I can only assume its the area we live in.

Are there ways to make this faster legally or illegally i don't care lol.

    Cheers.

  2. Illegally, you won't be getting any help here.

Legally, contact AOL. This sounds like there is an issue with your line. We had something similar, and BT sorted it out. We jumped from 19KB/sec to 129KB/sec.

Their 0800 number is in there - give them a ring and see what they can do for you.

Hmm... one wonders why AOL is offered outside of America? Should they change to World Online?
Your base? Well, they belong to me now...

Yea so they can get ripped for using the name world.....

As for your line speed problem you'll see in the fine print that it's not guaranteed. Getting max line speed depends on a few things including what type of line it is.

There are better plans for that price. You have everyone's internet. You have internet america and netzero. There is also Juno and Netscape.

  9. i read somewhere the advertised speed is the max.
if ppl in your street have same isp and are on at same time it will affect your download speed.
any truth in that or am i talking sh*te again?

  10. I think that is the "contention ratio", so true. However, your assumption is that everyone is placing equal demand on their service - this is normally not true. Of the 50 users I contend with, 40 of them are likely to be sitting reading a page and not actively downloading. Hence, I get my maximum rate when I need it.
