  1. Coming up on Canada's 150th birthday, and evidently, the "powers that be" are thinking of this:

This summer, July 1, will mark 138. So, 12 years added on, would be 2017. ^__^

P.S. Flaystus: Is that really necessary?

wow, thats a pretty ugly flag.. americans will accuse the canadians of trying to be like them by mimicking their flag colours. i'm surprised there isnt a public outrage over this in canada..

    Oh, there will be lumis.

Johnny: not all of Canada is cold all the time. In fact, most of B.C. I think is more on the rainy side as opposed to cold and snowy.

Canada is far too good to become another U.S. state; indeed, it would be like taking ten steps backwards (and still we'd be more advanced and progressive than the American South).

Man, reboot, get this: a couple years back, maybe 2003, Cobb County, GA actually voted to have disclaimers about evolution placed on textbooks. Now, if that's not the biggest load of bovine scatology I've ever heard of, then I don't know what is.

  14. Why do they want to change the flag? It's nice as it is, I think. Why mess with something that's good, and recognised around the world?

  15. There are some that want the flag this way.

And others that want something similar to this.

I always liked the plain red maple leaf. Why the change? It's not usually done unless there's a real good reason

I used the "new Canadian flag" search phrase on Google news and only came up with 3 sites, all discussing the new flag of 1965. My maternal grandparents were both Canadian immigrants ... and I remember my grandmother being VERY unhappy to see the 1965 change.

And, other than the 1965 flag, the only reference I could find to "new Canadian flag" on Google's regular search was a joke reference on a Skinhead site ... with a link to a joke Canadian flag that is definitely not work-safe. Not racist, but not work-safe either.

I live in Vancouver......there is probably at most 2 weeks of the year when there is snow on the ground......the rest of the winter it's well above freezzing and raining

I grew up there (left after University when I was 25). I never realized how much it rains in the winter till I lived somewhere else - and it rains A LOT! However, plus side to lots of rain is that Vancouver is going to be one of the greenest cities (year round) you'll ever see, really beautiful. Great summers though - start early, end late (as far as Canada goes) and doesn't get all that hot.

On a downside, traffic is pretty bad - mostly due to all the waterways (bridges are expensive) and cost of living is pretty high. IMO a beautiful city to visit but I personally don't want to live there any more...

  29. As soon as you get out of Vancouver, there's just a few hundred thousand square miles of other stuff, where it DOESN'T rain all the time
Avg yearly rainfall where I live, is less than 26mm (about 8 inches).

BTW, the "new flag" idea was just my way of stirring up some cattle dung. There is NO actual truth to a new flag for Canada's 150th
Nice to see some people got in on the different designs though!

I agree with Grimey: they'd have to change it over my dead body too.

Canada is a great place to live -- unless you live in Newfoundland. :P

That Quebec inspired flag is funny. They had their chance in '95...

    - Jie

P.S. Toronto is a great city to live in as well; I really cobsider it a world class city: great culture, restaurants, arts scene, the home of the BEST university in Canada (that's right I said it), and the best hockey team ever
