On Thursday, Feb. 24 the alternative-rock radio station Y100 (1003.FM) was removed from the Philly airwaves. It has been replaced with a rap/hip hop station. I have nothing against any form of music, but this unfortunately leaves Philly, the 5th largest radio outlet, without any alternative-rock station. The reason for the switch was not given buy the stations parent company, Radio One Corp.
If anyone is interested in information on what happened or to show support for the fans of Y100 please visit www.Y100rocks.com

though it sounds not to good - i trust you didnt reg here just to post this ...
does seem odd - but ratings is what it is all about -- and running a station automated to save a bundle on costs (clear channel)"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -

I must admit this was my first post, however I have been using this board as a resource for a couple of years. These boards are my definitive resources for everything video, I have learned a huge amount from everyone here.
I guess I just needed a place to vent my frustrations. And, yes, I have looked into satellite. But, I'm cheap and have become used to free radio. I also just read XM and Sirius are raising their prices soon. -
that sucks. the two rock/alternative stations here in phoenix claim to be independent so they basically play what they want. the better of the two or what used to be plays alot of punk and alternative these days

all music stations are suffering, with the advent and proliferation of the internet, p2p (free music), cd burners & portable music devices capable of holding more music than god could listen to radio stations just cant compete.. who wants to listen to commercials, edited music, stupid dj's, among other crap when you can listen to what you want, when you want?
with dvd burners becoming more prevalent & cheaper movie rental outlets are also feeling an effect, it wont be long before they too begin to feel the pinch.
now i'm not accusing everyone of being a pirate.. but when you can download an album and transfer it to your ipod or burn it to a cd-r that costs less than a quarter, who would go spend $15 on a cd?
why wouldnt you borrow you friends copy of anchorman and copy it to a dvd-r that costs 50 cents?
dvd's havent really reached the point that cd's have, but it wont be long before they too are idiot proof.
i myself rarely pay for any movies, video games, or music. i know its wrong, but i still do it. i could probably afford to buy 1/10th of what i do actually use that i illegally obtain.. but i'd much rather spend that on the devices that facilitate it. -

We lost our better rock station about a year ago. The sad thing is, they converted to an FM talk radio station. Who the hell puts talk radio on FM?
The remaining "rock" station is like lite-rock top 40's stuff. Good for a while, but they play the same rotation too much. -

Wow. I have to admire the station's committment to trying to return to the air. They have petition to return the station!
Here, when a station goes off the air, its gone. For good.
I usually don't mind but recently WKZN 105.3 The Zone went off and was replaced by Bayou 105.3. I wish they would have left WKZN alone.
We have 2 alternative rock station:
106.7 The End
Bayou 105.3
