  1. Appreciate "success" stories and what, if any, intervening device(s) (Time Base Corrector, Digital Video Stabilizer, etc.) were used. I plan to use Panasonice PV-V462 to Panasonic DMR E55.

The E55 has a TBC built-in that seems to be robust enough to handle all but the worst tapes. I have an E50 - the same basic model but a tad older.

The problem will be copy protection. The E55 will not allow copying of those tapes. You must use a macrovision remover or a TBC to record those

  3. I posted about this before but here goes. A Panasonic DMR-E55S saved a seriously damaged Hi-8 tape for me because the built-in TBC in it is very good. It would be difficult to find a DVD recorder that can do a better job with a damaged tape source.

The AVT-8710 is the cheapest Full Frame TBC on the market. The price is about $195 USD from B&H PHOTO

This device will completely eliminate ALL forms of copy protection. This is a "side effect" of using a Full Frame TBC.
