  1. I got a cheap DVD recorder (Go Video R6540), because after reading the comments, I decided I could live with it's faults. *For the most part, this has proven true, until I tried playing a disc with several short recordings on it. I was surprised that, when the selected title finished, the player returned to the menu instead of going on to the next title. *It also ignores 'NEXT' to go to the next title. *This is VERY inconvenient, as I record a lot of short items, 30-sec to 3-min (music videos, news items, favorite commercials), and I don't want to have to select each title as I play the entire disc.
(Plus it returns to the TOP of the menu each time, so I'll be scrolling down ever further to select the next title.)

I can't find any mention of this subject anywhere. It's not addressed in the manual I downloaded for a LG model. *Is it normal for ALL recorders? *Do I have to borrow a computer with DVDr from a friend and remaster every recorded disc? *How can I find out in advance if a potential replacement does the same thing?
I want to be able to play the disc as easily as a VCR with indexing:
Select a 2-digit number to jump to that title, hit NEXT to go to the next title, BACK to replay title, or just sit back and have them all play in sequence (with a random play option a nice extra over VHS).

On the plus side, I was pleasantly surprised that the recorder starts recording the instant REC is pressed, even if the disc has spun down. I mean no delay at all. *Do they all do this? *This machine is too cheap to have a HD buffer, so I don't know how it does it.

I dont know about the titles thing, have you tried playing it on a separate dvd player, does it just skip to the next title? If so, I'd suggest just using a separate player to play your dvds, thats what I do. I have a cheap recorder as well, ILO, and it doesnt have good playback anyways.

I wish my recorder instantly recorded all the time when i press rec. Sometimes its instant, sometimes it takes 15 yes 15 seconds before it starts recording.

oh yeah, would you mind posting your thoughts on the recorder? I think I saw one at Ultimate Electronics for 138.99, seems like a good deal

No,on my player NEXT does nothing. On a friend's player, NEXT just jumps back to the menu.

Hard to say, with nothing to compare it to. It's OK, though you do have to aim the remote perfectly. One+RW recording I made had a glitch at the start. It played perfectly on every settop player I tried, but would not play that title on a friend's PC, and the disc wouldn't read at all on his laptop. Attemps to copy the files to hard disk and play them failed. However, he was able to rip my music videos off an unfinalized +R OK. As for quality, again I have nothing to compare it to. HQ mode (1 hr) looks great, SLP mode (6 hr) looks awful, EP (3 hr) and LP (4 hr) look OK.
Personally, at this time I wouldn't buy any model unless the store allows returns. I got mine at Zellers (Canada) for Can$200. Someone who left a comment in the players list got his at Zellers too, and found it to be awful, so you can never tell!

PS: The firmware update (from Go Video) went smoothly. I had no problems burning the CD on a Mac using Toast, using the Windows Nero disk image provided.
