  1. Greetings:

While at first the topic may seem to have been answered already in this forum, if you kindly read this question you will see why I have to ask. But please let me first give a picture of what I am doing and what I wish to do:

1). I do lots of family home made DVD, VCD etc. I film my family events and then edit for burning later onto DVD, VCD etc. Now I have a capture card ATI Radeon 8500. Normally I input analogue tape into the computer and tahts it. But when I am doing this the process keeps me from working on other things on my computer due to the resource intensive natuire of the capturing.

2). So I purchased the new Sony Stand alone Direct VC10 model that permits you to capture dir3ctly from your analogue tape to DVD+ and it writes to the DVD inthe MPEG format. Now this makes it easy for me to jusy pop in my tapes, press a button and record directly all my tapes without tying up my computer.

3). Now after I shall have had the tapes digitized and on a DVD+ media I wish now to copy it to my hard drive where I can edit. The fact taht it is already dejitized onnthe DVD and in MPEG format SHOULD make it easier for me to edit - at least it reduces the time for the conversion, because it is already in Digitized format.

4). I have tried the normal commercial software on sale for ripping DVD but when I follow their instructions I come up with some confusing files. In my NEWBIE term - I think these softwares are not for regular HOME Made videos like I do, but rather foir commercially purchased DVD ripping. Thats not what I am into. I tried about 5 and non soles my problem.

5). What I am looking for is a simple but effective software that would enable me to put my MPEG DVD+ which I have created by my Sony Direct VC10 into my Iomega External Drive and copy the MPEG files to my hard drive as quickly as possible. I WOULD then be able to open up any of my movie creator editing software taht acceps MPEG files and do whatever editing I wish, and then save it into whatever format that I mighht need., thereby recording my finished work back to DVD - or +, or even make VCD or back out to VCR Tape if reuired.

Can anyone therefore assist me in telling me step by step how I can achieve my objective. If you will give me instructions, I operate very well when the instructions are given step by step.

I would apreciate your expert assistance.

Thats why I have asked for assitance. The question you asked me and the answer is in my original question. If I new how to do what you just suggested as an alternative I would never had asked. Please forgive me if my knowledge is that limited, but if tahts all I have to do, kindly just give me a step by step instruction to accomplish that.

I may or may not have tried your method, but I do know taht I tried several obvious methods and it still did not work. So could you kindly, please, reply me back and let me try your method, as simple as you may feel it is, to someone else not as well versed as you are, it could be a difficult task.

Please send your instructions for me. If you do it would be a great big help to me.

    Thanks Kevin.

    Hello,

Sure if you have windows pop in your dvd. Go to my computer and select the dvd drive with the disc and select the mpg file. Then either use the menu bars or right click and select copy. Then choose a spot on your harddrive and right click and select paste. Then just wait for the file to copy.

OK, here is what I did:-

1). I placed my DVD into the computer drive.
2). I had to copy the following files as you suggested to my hard drive. However O had to copy and paste one by one. The files were:

    a). Video_TS
    b). Video_TS
    c). Video_TS.BUP
    d). VTS_01_0
    e). VTS_01_0.BUP
    f). VTS_01_1

3). Now after I copied all these files to the hard drive.

4). I then opened up Movie Maker and it could not imput these files. I also tried nero, and nothing happened. Both returned a message taht the files were unsupported.

    Please advise.

Be a little more patient and you will find what you need. canadateck#s suggetsion sounds right to Me. DVD Decrypter can be used to rip your movie into one large VOB file.

Once you have this I would suggest Womble mpeg video wizard to edit. Not many apps handle editing mpeg well as it was not designed to be edited, but Womble is one of the best for this.
