    Verify that DMA is enabled in BIOS and in Device Manager. Otherwise, upgrade to XP. The extra memory above 128MB is pretty much wasted on 98.
    Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

  3. I'd say Video card drivers and Direct X need to be installed

    There are issues with 98SE and memory > 500meg.
    Something about the way it tries to use the swap file AFAIK. The workaround is to limit the memory that it accesses. That is done with msconfig under the advanced tab.

    In msconfig->system.ini->vcache(highlight)->new->make a new entry named: MaxFileCache=522240

    I also think you need to update your videocard drivers,especially if you recently installed DirectX 9.Another possibility is your Sony drive,rip the DVD to your HD and see if it still does it....if yes=drivers,if no=Sony drive.

    Actually I was referring to the limit memory value box. Mine is set to 496.

    I know but it's wise to also limit the vcache:
