Hi,

I am new to video editing. I have a number of 8mm camcorders tapes collected over the last 5 years. I would like to convert them to digital, likely on CD format (VCDs or divx format) I currently have an ATI Rage 128 Pro card with VIVO. I tried capturing to Divx using VirtualDub but it was not very good. I was wondering whether I would get better quality by either
- renting a compatible digital camcorder (able to read my tapes), installing a firewire card and transferring my tapes through the firewire port, or
- installing a better capture card, like ATI Radeon AIW or the latest Radeon 8500 AIW and capture using my existing camcorder and the RCA connectors, or
- use an external encoder like the USB Instant DVD device which seems quite powerful.
Or maybe I can stick with my existing material but tweak my system. I am on W2K now but should upgrade to XP within the next two weeks.

Thanks for your ideas
