  1. got MTR 2.6 trying to rip the Forgotten and Resident Evil 2 (region 1)
i believe it has the new encryption. (ArcssOs?) dvd rips part way through and quits on certain vob files. stops processing and says it has errors. should i be ripping movie only? and how do i use dvd2onex afterwards? tried using the latest version and the drag and drop feature doesnt work anymore, the start button is dimmed until i manually type in the location of the ripped folder.
using a G5 dual 2g with 2g of ram. pioneer dvr-106d that has been flashed.
anything i need to do different?
    thanx.

    GB,
    will MTR 2.61 fix this?
If so, i would wait ---I PM 'd WW about it last night,
as I picked up the Forgotten yesterday at Wal-Mart,
and tried it as well--MTR comes up full Arccos Extraction
tries, finds too many bad sectors, slows to a crawl and says forget it.

Well, if one of you guys would send us a copy of that movie, maybe we could look into it...

  6. Hey Guys

I ripped Forgotten a couple of days ago. MTR ripped it ,automatically swithing to ARccOS mode when it first detected the disc. It took longer than usual but it finished the job but did give the "Bad Sectors" warning at the end. I ripped using full disc extraction.

Using DTOX, I used user defined size of 4370G (my usual), movie only, (chosing the Extended version/alternate ending version). It compressed fine. Burned in Toast and verified fine. Playing in my standalone player, however, there was about 10 1/2 minutes of black screen. Didn't get video or sound until mid chapter two. I went back and played the DTOX video_ts folder that was still on my hard drive and it did the same thing.

I went back and recompressed with DTOX. This time I checked the Chapters/Cells/Layers tab. Layers didn't help me, and Chapters didn't help either because the video began in the middle of Chapter2. Clicking on cells however showed my that the first eleven cells either didn't show a time duration or were empty as far as MB size. (I can't recall which it was and I don't have a screen shot of it). Anyway, I deselected these first eleven cells, then compressed with Detox. Played the resulting video_ts folder with Apple DVD player and viola', worked fine. The movie started at the " Statue of Liberty Lady" Columbia/Sony Pictures logo and played fine. I then burned with Toast again and it plays fine in my standalone player also.

    Hope this helps.

    thanks ronin!
Off hand, did the screen look something like this:

This is what I was telling WW last night, and I gave up
    on it after 90mins running!

    this morning,
I tried to do a title only rip ( Arccos) and started it at 7 am CST
and it STILL didn't complete when I got home 20 mins ago!

At least hearing one person got it made gives me hope!
I'll start this tonight, and let it run an see what happens.

  8. terryj,

You're welcome. Yes the MTR screen was the same as your screen shot. Though not sure about the "bad sector" note in MTR. Honestly, I had let it run and when I came back it had completed but had the "Bad Sectors" warning screen/window. The resulting DVD folder had the name""_ARccOS also. My rip did take longer but as I recall only about 2 hours??? I'm on Dual G4 800 with 1.25g ram, running 10.3.5. Not sure why yours is taking so long.

Again, I took this folder and ran it thru DTOX, movie only, and using the "Cells" tab, deselected the cells with no info(either no duration or no MB). I assume these are the dummy VOB's that are part of the ARccOs protection scheme(?) The resulting Video_TS folder played fine, burned fine.

    Good luck

    ronin,
ok after 51m, 52sec, it finally spit out a folder
from MTR 2.6. Ok, I got this in DTOX now, and
    this is what I'm seeing:

Now, my only question is that I'm assuming you are talking track 6,
but track 7 also has those questionable "first eleven cells"...
which should I do? Does it matter?

( i am currently running it through DTOX as we speak, with
track 6 being the one I chose to deselect the first eleven from...
    It's done)

Testing through DVD Player, it starts like you said, no skips
and credits are going by fine. This works for me.
    Thanks, Ronin!

It's likely this DVD has both a widescreen and a fullscreen copy of the movie on it. You can just delete the VOBs for the version you don't want (that's the fullscreen version for all the sane readers here - use VLC to play the VOBs to tell which is which), and the DVD should play fine as long as you don't select the menu item for the deleted version (and it should be small enough to burn to DVD-R now). Make sure you test it with DVD Player before burning. No need to do a Movie Only extraction on this particular title.

    so WW,
are you saying that once the DVD has been ripped by MTR,
then you could go in and do a Disc Copy, but delete beforehand
( at folder level) to disable the "offending" fullscreen
track, plus the eleven "dwarves" that muck things up,
and then generate a disc with menus, that would be navigatable,
but with only the WIDESCREEN track?!?
or am I missing something else?

( in the past tests I've done, DTOX would say can't do full disc
    because of missing vobs)

let me know, I'll test this this afternoon!

    ok, figuring this out...
Track 6 is the THEATRICAL WS version of the film.
Track7 is the WS version of the film with Alt Ending.
no FS exists on this disc, and there are no extras.

ran the MTR output through DTOX, first doing track 6,
then going back and doing track 7. Plan on running
both VIDEO_TS folders through DTOX's join feature
to make a decent( minus menus and trailers)
backup. Will post back if I have problems.

What I meant was to not use DVD2OneX at all. Just use MTR in Full Disc mode, then trash the VOBs for the version you don't want in the Finder. If you do want both versions, then I guess it's necessary to use DVD2OneX or Popcorn.

  14. terryj,

Glad you got it working. Yes the different tracks are for the Theatrical version and the Alternate ending/extended version.I did the alternate ending one (track 7)

    WW....

I didn't check the size of the movie before I compressed with DTOX. You are correct though in that it may not have needed compression if I had deleted the VOBs that I didn't need or want. Thats a little tricky for me though and I'm afraid I'd delete a file I really do need to make a playable backup. I tend to just let DTOX do its job. I've been pretty happy with the results. I assume if the movie MB is under the user defined size I chose (4370 MB) then DTOX would do very little, if any compression? Am I correct in this assumption? And thanks for your help with getting the MTR updates out.

It does no compression that I can tell if it is under
the target size. a while back, I did Van Helsing: London Assignment
    through MTR,
    and it was originally 3.8GB.
Ran through DTOX, it spit out
    another 3.8GB Video_TS folder.
So I just burned the one from MTR.

Ronin, thanks for your tips, I'm testing my joins in DTOX
right now, so far DVD Player is handling it fine.
Will burn and test on the standalone in 15 mins or so...

    right back atcha weez...!

hey, when you get a sec, can you point me in the direction
of the documentation on "DTOX after MTR has ripped ArCCos"
as to what to do then? I told my corp video buddy about
the DTOX upgrade last night, but while I was looking
on the site and in the help file, it said nothing about
how it handles the MTR output, and he wants to get a printout of it,
(busy guy that he is) for reference. Is it automagically dumping
the empty cells upon Disc Copy/requantum?
Do you still have to do Cell selection?

    thanks....
    Quote Quote
  22. You can do a full disk , 100% copy ,,, feed that into DTOX.. it will compress the Video Content as per normal , but instead of balking on the currupted IFO, s it will repair the damage and output a 1-1 copy of the disc.

As the dead cells are never accessed by the DVD player , dtox just scans over them . The IFO indicates the first cell access for the stream in its CellCommand Table...its important to keep this un altered.

I have has conformation ( for the non- believers ) that MTR 2.6.3 is ripping ARccOS discs without issues... the DTOX guys tested it.

    GB,
    thanks,
I assume when you say FULL DISC you mean
FULL DISC ArCCOS, as that is what will come
up in MTR 2.63 when it
    scans an ArCCos disc?

I will print out your post and give to my buddy!
As always, thanks for all you do my friend!

i had the same problem with the same disks (Resedint Evil+Forgotten+Little Black Book) and the error was something like: (Bad Sector 7680), the MTR showed the error and kept on, at the end it showed that there was and error with the disk and it had bad blocks (but its brand new), tried to compress it with DTOX, gave me a msg about i have to copy the whole disk files for compressing...
my MTR ver. is 2.6.6 and DTOX ver. is 1.4.1.. wheres the problem? what can i do?!
