i've been collecting high quality HDTV xvids of the ABC series "lost"..
they're very good quality. here is some info about one of them:
960x528, dolby digital 5.1 @ 384kbps, 42 minutes 22 seconds, 700mb.
they're captured from HDTV (w/ 16:9 AR)..
i've tried converting them to DVD spec, but to maintain a decent bitrate i could only put 2 or 3 episodes on one disc.. which would lead to many many discs.. and they lose quite a bit of video quality (not sound quality, i keep the original dd 5.1)
i'd rather burn 6 of them to a DVD-R and play them on a DVD player..
i have an HDTV, and i would like the dvd player to display them in 16:9 (fill up the whole screen).
any suggestions?
(p.s. - i live in canda, its legal :P)

Can an existing player, i.e. the Phillips, play the HD files or said player's firmware upgraded to do so?
-
looks nice.. a few questions though.
"DivX Certified to play HD" & "Supported Video Files: MPEG-1/MPEG-2/DivX video " ... what about xvid?
"Video Output: D Connector (Component) 1080i/720p/480p/480i, Composite, & S-Video".. is there one with an dvi/hdmi output?
"...in addition to standard DVDs and DivX files from a CD" what about from a dvd-r, or a dvd+r DL? -
Lumis:
1.) The current model does not have a DVI or HDMI port. (Think 2nd version will.) Zensonic is working on a model that is based on the same chip and will have HDMI.
2.) It will by XviD.
3.) It will play files on a DVD-R/+R. Can't say about DVD+-R DL. It will also play AVI files over 2 Gigs. Burn the disk as UDF format. (In nero, I always check the force X-Box "playable" box.)For the love of God, use hub/core labels on your Recordable Discs! -
hm.. for $249, that isnt too bad..
are there any players that are better than this one?
thanks for the info -
I think that the Zensonic will be the way to go. My friend has the I-O and loves it. He has let me play with it and its about the best thing next to a HTPC. I-O also updates its firm ware too.
But the Zensonic will have Quick Time Playback (if you care) and the HDMI port. My new HDTV has this and would like to put it to use. Love the idea of one cable that will send High-Def A/V signals.
