Well I have 2 files and they both have the .mkv extension. I checked the guides out and they all say stuff about subtitles. Well i don't care about those, I'm just interested in converting the files to vcd to burn and watch on my standalone dvd player/tv. I use Mainconcept mpeg converter, I can also use tmpgenc, but I prefer Main's.
If I need to download something else, that's fine, but what do I do?

Load the file(s) in GSpot. Look for the codec info and audio info. If you haven't codec installed, download and install it.
Load the file in VDubMod. Save the audio as wav file. Demultiplex the video - save it as .avi. From here you can deal with it as an avi file.
The mkv (matroska video) is a container. It can have almost everything "inside" even mpeg2 video.
I checked the guides out and they all say stuff about subtitles.
