  1. my problem is im trying to fit 4.43 GB (4,763,760,964 bytes) on to one dvd-r, i know that the maximum is 4,700,000,000 bytes. so i thought i would compress the data and fit it onto to the disc. The data is 11 350MB files and one 700mb file. After some research i found that a program called "7-Zip" was the best for my task. I started to compress the 350 MB files and i noticed i only shaved off 3 or 4 MB. That is no where near enough. I was wondering if anyone out there know how i could either fit more data onto a data dvd or i could compress it more effectively. I really want to keep this video data together and not on 2 discs. I would really appreciate some help.

    thanx

You must reencode the video if you want to reduce the file size.

If they are all using the same codec, then you will see similar results trying to compress the others -- which means re-encoding at a slightly lower bitrate. But you might only have to do one or two of the files at a lower bitrate to get them all to fit.

But if some of your files might be using a different codec, they might compress better. Not all codecs are created equally, and I have seen some video files (depending on the codec) compress quite nicely.

  5. I'm making just a data DVD, it doesnt need to be able to be played in a stand alone player. Just for my computer use. As for the video files, they are almost all Xvid at around 24bit and 25 frames/sec. If i have to reencode i will probably do it in one shot on the 700 MB file. does anyone know how much size i need to cut down so it will fit nicely. I was thinkning 80 to 100 MB. What do u guys think.

  6. You are going to kill the file quality and yourself, just to save one DVD.best to use 2 or maybe try DL DVD , it will take a few hours to encode your video to a smaller file and quality will suffer.
