I have 23 Vob files that I combined from home movies to make a compilation dvd for a birthday tribute. What I have done is ripped all the dvds that I want to use onto my HDD. I then used dvdshrink to cut out the parts of the videos that I want to use. So I am left with 23 vob files. I then used Ifoedit after I renamed the vob's last number in numerical order beginning with 01 and put them all in one folder, called Video_TS. When I open IFOedit , click Create IFO's, Create One PGC Only, Create Chapter for each cell, and destination same as source(this will put my ifos and bups together with the vob's so you can burn a DVD UDF disk. Found the vob folder in the explorer window, open it and highlighted the first vob and clicked okay and waited for IFOedit to finish.

When it was done I created an empty folder called AUDIO_TS, and place the video and audio ts folders inside another folder with the name of your compilation. Keep the name short(seven or eight letters) Use Nero 6 or similar burning program to burn a UDF dvd disc from the folder. The name of your folder will be the name of the 'movie'.

The problem I'm having is that the movie is 5.28GB and I can't seem to shrink it using dvd2one or shrink? Also, when I played the movie in windvd, it did not play in the order I wanted it to, They go from VOBs 1 to 10-19, then Vobs 2-23, and then Vobs 3-9. I want it to play on the dvd from 1-23. Do I need to renumber them some how?

Any ideas how to shrink and play it in order from 1-23?

  2. In IFOEdit you need to create a PGC for each VOBid,this should also fix the problem with DVDShrink.
    "Create 1 PGC only"=one title
"Create a PGC for each new VobID"=multiple tiltes
Also make sure your vobs are numbered like this:VTS_01_1.VOB,VTS_02_1>VOB,etc.

ok....Here is how they are numbered......VTS_01_1 - 01_9. Then VTS_01_10.... Is this ok. Should they be named like _001? I'll try you previous answer now....

Also, Do I create chapter cell for each or for 1st cell only?

    Create chapter cell for each.
First number in the VTS is the title number(eg 01),the second number is play order(eg 1...there's no zero needed and is used when the title is >.99GB).
BTW..when you are done make sure to hit "Get VTS sectors".

when it's done the chapter cell stuff, I then choose get vts sectors? Which one do I choose to get VTS Sectors for? The Video_TS.IFO or the VTS_01_0.IFO?

Also why does it say 7 chapters not 23?

ok I think I found a problem. I have them numbered like this: VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB, VTS_01_3.VOB is this wrong? I just noticed earlier you say go VTS_01_1, _02_1, so do I just change the seond number and keep the last one _1?

    Rename the files VTS_01_001.VOB, VTS_1_002.VOB ..... VTS_01_010.VOB ... VTS_01_023.VOB as per the above guide.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Jimmalenko....everything worked. But when I play it on my standalone dvd, will I be able to skip ahead to each chapter (1of23) individually, by hitting the next button Or the scan(chapter fastforward)?

If the next button works in your DVD Playing software or IFOEdit on the comp, then I'd be fairly confident (read: damn sure ) that it will work.

Burn it and find out, eh ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

Well instead of trying to shrink the dvd, I jsut took out 2 of the vobs.....didn't want to bother with the whole.....shrinking problem. Dvd works great. Thanx jimmalenko. Let me know if you can figure out why dvd2one wouldn't work, if you can think of anything.

Assuming all 23 VOB files have the same type of audio (ie., 48k AC3) and the same video framerate, do the following:

    1) Add all those VOB files sequentially to the merge-list using VOBmerge 2.5. Merge them all into one big VOB file.

    2) Use VOBedit to demux the big VOB file into audio (AC3 or MP2) and video (M2V) parts.

    3) Use DVDauthorGUI to author new DVD files from the demuxed parts.

    4) Use DVDshrink to shrink it to fit on one DVD, creating an ISO file.

    5) Use DVDdecrypter to burn the ISO file to a blank DVD.
