    Hello,

I am interested in taking my Dads old 8mm and Super 8 films from when me and my brothers and sister were kids and putting them on DVD.
I am not looking to spend a ton of money tho. I see alot of these on ebay and was wondering if they are any good for this type of work.

AMBICO DELUXE VIDEO TRANSFER SYSTEM MODEL V-0650 or this one Goldline CP-720 video converter (allows stereo mixing and things like that).

The Ambico are more prevalent and seem to run 30 -50 bucks. the other runs around 150-200.

My dad has his old projector and still works too he said. If not I was looking at some of the bell and Howells like a BELL & HOWELL DUAL 8MM PROJECTOR 10MS VARIABLE SPEED. They go pretty cheap too.

Thanks for any input and advice. Mark

yea but i'd like to give it a whirl. If this stuff works decently can get it less than $200.00 and learn a few things and have some fun with them.

I seen one a relative had done and not sure what he paid but a good quarter of it is too dark too see. Sure its the tape but I could edit that stuff out which this company did not do. Plus there were their ads on it and the music was nothing I would have chosen.

    THanks

  4. One way is to scan it with a scanner & reassemble on a PC.

  5. Mark,

In my opinion, and I have tried what you want to do, you will not be happy with the results that you will get by using one of the Ambico boxes. You will need a camera, a good projector with a variable speed rheostat and a whole lot of patience. You can maybe get some decent results for a while, but eventually the projector will change speed, ever so little, and cause the flicker effect, which is a very annoying effect. You will find yourself out of the money paid for the camera, the projector and your time, then you will go have it done proffesionally anyway. Then you will out that money too. Do as others have said. Find someone to do it for you that has the proper equipment. I can reccommend someone to do it if you need.

  7. If you are interested in scanning the film, you are still in for quite a bit of work. Here is a url of someone who has succesfully done this, I believe:
