    I hate their f@#king commercials.

The world knows they package antivirus software now.

    They can shut-up.

AOL sucks to hell with them!

Sure, I did see some ads like that in Netscape membership too.

I no longer have any to do with them as membership now de-activated along with email addresses as gone.

    The service sucks!

Its my understanding that AOL lost a million clients last year.
I think a lot of people are fed up with them.

They have their customer service issues, but what it comes down to is that they're destined to die out. Broadband has become too inexpensive to justify paying $24/mo for dial-up.

They sometimes get pretty creative with the cases that they send them in. 8)

There were too many technical problems and too many issues with them wasting my time.

My membership on access won’t work and my communications won’t work.

Hasn't AOL (or more importantly, their users) been the laughing stock for at least 5 years ?

That's the impression we got over here, judging on all the AOL user jokes and helpdesk anecdotes, anyway.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Yes, they are on their way out if they don't drastically turn some things around. I haven't used them in about... 3 years? So I was only laughed at for two years by jimm's gauge

I have heard these commercials over and over.

At least the dial-up is accellerated, whatever that means. I think AOL is really for anyone stupid enough to have kids, because it's my understanding that the parental controls is that attracts a lot of their users.

Must be more than five years. i think AOL dialup died in the UK when freeserve came out, which was, you know, free!

They're trying to come back hard with ADSL (ADSL also seems to be the retards choice. i mean, who wants to see "Dialling. Verifying username and password......" ) but who in their right mind would pay AOL -and- BT every month? well i guess someone is.

They don't send out the CD's anymore though.............

I loaded up on about 100 AOL cases that happened to be DVD cases, a couple of years ago. The local Wal-mart had a huge display, so I loaded the basket and carted them out of the store. Got questioned at the exit, told the person at the door that I had a lot of friends that wanted to sign up.

Soon afterwards, the display disappeared along with all the cases. :P

AOL = Training wheels for the internet.

I am constantly amazed how many people are still willing to pony up $24 a month for abysmal dial-up service. Anytime I run into someone that still uses it, I have to ask WHY? The most common response? I don't want to change my e-mail address, I've had it for so long.

I miss the good old days when they sent out AOL floppy disks. At least you could reformat those puppies and use them on your own stuff.

It used to be that only two things in life were "certain" -- death and taxes. But now, it's death, taxes, and that sometime before you die, you will receive at least one AOL disc in the mail.

I have to agree AOL sucks. i never had it, but my friend did because she likes all those goofy features that come with it (the instant message, etc) but it had many problems. And, as said before, is Dial-Up, is slow as molasses. and a bit expensive. I hear all the Dial-Up Services are losing customers, it's slow as shit. I prolaly one of the last left using it.

You can get that without being a member - http://www.aim.com/

It's free, and allows you to chat with anyone on AOL or whoever uses AIM.

And if you like their Headlines, you can get that free too from their site - www.aol.com

Now that AOL doesn't give members direct access to Usenet, I have a strong feeling they're gonna lose a lot more people this year.

They have the most strict forums and chat rooms I've ever seen - you'll get warnings or even have your membership terminated just for using PG type language in any forum or chat rooms.

The aol borads are never on the topic of their subject folders either
If you think you've seen strict forums, just wait 'til ya see AOL's

Only advantages AOL members have are being able to spy on other members (that is if you figured out how to do that...which isn't hard to do) and read member profiles.

You can access AOL through any ISP using TCP/IP and avoid the full charge - Their Bring Your Own Access plan is much less.

Still not really worth it for what little they offer though.

they never did give their members direct access - it was heavily filtered, that's one of the reasons I left it several years ago. the fact that they heavily censored what groups you could access, and refused to allow 3rd-party newsreader apps was the straw that broke the camel's back.

I remember the first time I used Agent on someone else's computer, and did a quick group search - one alt.something only showed 2 groups via AOL, vs the 900 that were actually available.

Yea, that's true....they were quick to block all warez groups too.

But...they no longer give access to ANY newsgroup now

They'll tell you to try google groups to access them

    Nope, no more for me.

I still got Netscape Membership as now 'inactive' and this one got free AIM included.

I've seen AOL ads on Netscape last year too.

I am sick of them as the service sucks
