Hey guys, I got a bunch of videos I captured from VHS, they range from 2 minutes to 20 minutes and I probably have 100+ of them. Can anyone recommend a good program that can batch encode these to some type of compressed format, I was thinking divx or xvid.
Which one should I use? Divx or Xvid?
And can anyone recommend bitrate settings? The original quality isn't very good, so I don't want ot use a low bit rate to make it worse, but I don't want to waste space either.
I don't mind buying some software, I'll be doing this for plenty of VHS types and I'm doing this for my Mom so she'll pay for any software I tell her is necessary, I'd rather not spend more than $100 on software though
Thanks for any help.

Easiest way I've found is to open them in VirtualDubMod, then save as DIVX from there. You can configure the bitrate and whatnot right in the program. Depending on the quality, you could prolly encode to 640x480 @ 500 Kbps, or whatever that exact setting is. It's one of the 4:3 default settings.
