  1. Just done a big upgrade (cpu, mobo,hd) and reinstalled win98.
Problem is that the studio pctv rave card causes my comp to freeze (requires hard reset) everytime it is attempted to be used (tv package, test package, virtualdub).
I have swapped pci slots (only once thats true but it did nothing, i only have 3, 1 for my nic(cable modem) and 2 spare).
OK its a cheap jetway 920bf mobo with on board sound and graphics, but with a celeron 800 it's way better than my previous setup.
I think it may not like the onboard graphics, i can use my old nvidia pci board if i have to (but no slots left then)
PLEASE HELP, as this cheap rig which meant to keep me happy for a few months will become an expensive mistake!!!

  2. Try using the VidCon32 application before starting up the other applications that came with your Pinnacle. A LONG! time ago, that was 'supposedly' the way to initialize the card for use with the main apps and other third party apps like Vdub. If Vdub gives you a warning like 'capturing at such and such with Brooks Tree drivers .....etc.' before you start to capture video, then this should solve the problem. Also try upgrading Virtual Dub to a more recent version.

    Don't worry
make sure that you didn't leave the Pctv card into the system when Windows is installed onto the system.
if this was the case use Regdelete to clean the registry.
    ftp://ftp.pinnaclesys.de/driver/pc/extras/RegDelete.exe

also make sure that there isn't any other twain drivrs active inn your system.
and to be sure that there arn't any conflicts in your system then you have to generate an seperate IRQ for the Pctv card sound card and graphics card.

  4. Hey guys, sorry for the delay and thanks.
Basically i think the onboard graphics did not support overlay, so added spare pci graphics card - success.

Oh, removing the studio rave card, uninstalling the software and using that VERY useful registry 'deleter' from that link, then doing a proper install may also have had an effect. Anyway, my problems are only starting now...
...how to get the perfect cap...so many variables, so slow a computer!!!
