Hey all, I just got my brand new ATI Tv Wonder Elite in the mail the other day. I then plugged it in and went right to Virtual Dub. (After installing the worthless software that comes with the card) and I went to cap just like my old ATI AIW 7500 that worked just fine.
Once I went into Vdub I set up all the cap settings and I could see the video on the screen and was getting the audio. I then go to cap and It doesn't do anything. the video's still there, but nothing's going on on the right side of the screen displaying info about my cap. It also would say that It captured no frames and suggested that I check that the ard it connected correctly and junk (Which it is)
So then I thought Vdub was messed up. After reinstalling I found that wasn't the problem. After looking around I found out that because it's an MPEG card it won'tcap AVI?!?! Is that true. I though MPEG Hardware/AVI hardware could cap the other format but it would require the use of the system's processor to do it. (BTW I tried the program that comes with the card and it capped fine, so it's not the card)
I really want to use Vdub because I've got old anime Subbed tapes that I want to convert to DVD and (hopefuilly) improve the quality slightly on. I have filters with Vdub that I want to use plus i'm really familar with it. (and love Vdub more than any other program.
Is there any way I can set up Vdub to cap with my card. I really don't want to go through the trouble of RMA'ing this with Newegg and going and buying another card that caps in AVI. Btw, I prefer HuffUV and HD space is not a problem as I just got a 160 GB WD Caviar SATA drive. : )
Thanks in advance,
Twobit326

MPEG Hardware encoder. Makes nice MPEGs for authoring to DVD. Thats what it is designed to do. Did you read the specs before you bought it? The best TV capture cards for Home PVR use have one purpose, Capture MPEGs. Straight to chopping and authoring and burning to DVD. THat's why ATI came out with this card. Sorry but if you don't want it, send it back.

Is there a VCC you could reccomend. I looked at the Hauppauge (I know I spelled it wrong) WinTV 250 but I think it said it was a hardware MPEG 2 encoder. I might be mistaken. But anyways, any help could be appreciated.

This card DOES capture to avi. (I have it too)
It uses a WDM driver so it won't work with VirtualDub. -
I thought the new VirtualDub worked around this?

I just got Virtual VCR to work with AVI caps with HuffyUV. So I'm guessing it's a VirtualDub problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Well, actually it should; but this card seems to have been released with alpha drivers... The only programs that work ok (that I've tried) are: GraphEdit, PowerCinema (<-crap...), AMCap and VirtualVCR (to capture to avi).
No one knows when ATI will release drivers that will give the card its full functionallity, and proper support for other programs. You can read ~75 pages of this same topic in Hexus.net.
Twobit326: Yes, you can capture to avi with that program. I want you to know that the card is actually very good at capturing video; we just have to wait for ATI to release new drivers and software to use all the card's potential.
Until then, you will get great results using VirtualVCR capturing to avi; I've found a 'bug' in the hardware MPEG encoder so I wouldn't capture to MPEG-2 yet.
BTW, if you haven't already; there are new drivers on ATI's website. Go to download them now -
thanks so much! That's the kind of news I wanted to hear. I capped about 5 mins of garbly video to my HD last night/. It captured perfectly. Only thing is is that Virtual VCR can't give me my cap info.
Thanx,

If it's a WDM card, have you tried VirtualDubMod rather than VirtualDub?
