I have pulled a .tivo file from my TiVO box and, relatively, successfully converted it to a regular MPEG2 file using the evillabs DirectShow method (http://www.evillabs.net/tivo/). I, obviously, want to do this so I can backup stuff from my TiVO for watching at a later date.
The picture and audio quality is excellent, except the audio is running about a 1/2sec behind the video. Is there a tool I can used that will help me resync the audio & video?
I have demultiplexed it using TMPGEnc and I now have my audio & video streams. What I suspect I am looking for is a tool that will let me slide my audio around until I have it sync'ed and then I can remux it using TMPGEnc. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
David

Load it into virtualdubmod and set audio offset -500ms, frameserve to tmpgenc to remux.
Alternatively, you could chop 1/2 second off the start of the audio in something like Goldwave, Audacity, or Soundforge.Cheers, Jim

This is the best I have found since it does not re-encode. It is the only one I know of that can do that. Just add or remove the set time yo need and same. Fast.

I have a similar problem, but due to some little recording glitch, I have an audio track that has multiple gaps that causes the sync to get larger as the video goes on. It's about a 15minute mpeg2 clip. Is there an editing software that will let me cut & move the audio track visually in a timeline type of editing so I can move it and preview it in the same app? I'm a beginner at editing, so the simpler the interface the better. I can't even begin to understand Premiere. =\
thanks! -
No no... I have audio editors up the ying-yang. =) (at least if your reply was for me, winifreid) I need a video editor that will let me adjust the audio track within the program so I can adjust the sync issue as I go through it.

Nope. Strike two. Ulead will let me drag the audio around (which is perfect) but I cannot preview the video without switching to another screen AND it won't let me cut/split the audio so I can adjust the timing on seperate parts.
Basically, I do not want to spend 4hours (that I don't have) over 15 minutes of video that should be easy with the right software. My question is does this software exist, or am I S.O.L.? If not, then I have to somehow write down a list of adjustments that look close, split and adjust the audio, pop it back into something like Videostudio, just to see that I'm not 100% right and have to go back again.
There has to be an easier way... =\ -
The MPEG cutters (i.e. Mpeg2Schnitt and Cuttermaran) will let you do this.
They won't fix audio "creep" (unless you do multiple adjusts and cuts) but if it's just sliding the audio backward or forward, they are very good at this and you can check your adjustment before you commit.
If you are adjusting the audio over the whole file then you are just cutting the whole file not bits.
If you want to have different audio adjustments over sections of the file then you will need to cut each segment with the audio adjustment applied and re-join the segments later. -
The moonlight Xmuxer does nothing to resync.
Try PVStrumento as the first operation (freeware), or VideoReDo (commercial). Both have powerful automatic AV resynchronisation algorithms. Videoredo also has manual resync tools.
There's also ProjectX (freeware), but I have no experience of this.
All three handle transport streams, which I believe the Tivo may use.

Thanks bunyip, Cuttermaran looks like it might work. Not as easy as I hoped, but a good start. VideoReDo is awesome, Panash, but the audio sync is similar to TMPGEnc as it's one edit for the whole file, I can't adjust the audio on each scene/selection. If it did, I'd be in my glories. =) TMPGEnc has a nice edit screen, but as far as I can tell, there is no way to make multiple audio edits.
Cuttermaran seems to let you cut the Audio only, which makes me believe I can cut and adjust. I'll have to get the time to figure it out. Thanks a lot for the help! (In case you were wondering, I recorded the rebroadcast of the Red Sox ALCS games, and for some reason the sound messed up at the last at bat of game 5... so I'm trying to fix it =) )
