    Hi,

I have been converting, creating and burning for some time now.

Each time i hit a problem i have tried to figure out a way around it, looked here for assitance or on a rare occasion ahve ahd to start a new topic to seek aide.

Unfortunately this is one of those times.

I have been given an AVI by a friend (he isnt very techy so please dont ask me to ask him anything) which he would like me to convert to a DVD for him.

As far as i am aware he has attached a number of avi's together to a suitable size for a CD-R. However now that he wants to pass it on to others he woulod like to convert it to DVD.

Normally this would not pose any difficulty to me.

However this time i am unable to even view the file, let alone convert it.

I have run the file through GSpot and it states that i have both audio and video codecs installed (i would put a screen shot up, if i knew how, but i dont have anywhere to host it so i have problems)

    Can anyone please help me?

    thanks in advance

  2. this is strange but there seems to be two answers. one is that the file is corrupted just enough that the video wont play or its your computer. try to convert a 1 min section of it in Tmpgenc or any other video editor and see if it works.

  3. If your AVI file is indeed a divx file, make sure you have the latest version of the divx codec installed. I had a similar problem last week, I got some new AVI files and couldn't play them (no error, just blank or garbled video). Turns out I didn't have the latest divx installed. I went to http://www.divx.com and downloaded the most recent version, and now I can play all those files fine.
