i just recently purchased this dvd burner from new egg
    http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=27-131-239&depa=1
in its description it says 8x dvd-r burning capabilities, so all i have right now are 4x disks, and it wont allow me to burn on them, why is that, im thinking about sending it back, but i have a shipment of 8x disks coming, ....any suggestions as to why those disks aren't burning...holla back

Have you looked for a firmware update yet?

    ja!
    see if there's newer firmware
also, it may be your media....
then again, I have an LG GSA-4040B burner (4X max burn rate) -- this drive WILL NOT burn at 2X. period, forget it. I've tried with a large variety of media, it just won't do it. But it'll burn at 2.4X with no problems at all..... just plain weirdness
Also, sometimes after a successful burn, DVD Decrypter will report that the max burn rate for the project was (up to) 5.2X -- that's pretty damn fast for a 4X drive!!

You should be able to get it either through Sony or www.rpc1.org

It usually will be an executable file.

All you have to do is double click.

Do not do anything else while flashing though or you can ruin your drive.
