  1. Hello

Can anyone suggest a program to convert avi to DVD elemtary streams so I can then import them into my authoring software?

    Thanks you

Any MPEG encoder should be able to do this - TMPGEnc Plus certainly can. Even if your MPEG encoder "only" produces an MPEG file, you could then demux to elementary streams.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I use virtualdubmod to demux the audio from the avi. If it is AC3, I leave it at that. If it is mp3 I use sound forge to convert it to 2.0 AC3 (I am experimenting with this -> https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=291881 at the moment to see what pseudo 5.1 sounds like).

I then use avisynth to resize and filter before frameserving to CCE to produce the video stream.

I then author in DVD Lab Pro to complete the disc.

You can just go from avi to elementary streams because the avi streams aren't usuable in DVD. If you are happy with the DVD Santa route, stick with it. You don't even need to demux because DVD Lab Pro will do that for you. You could have saved your money and used the freeware version of DivxtoDVD to do the same thing, faster than DVD Santa.

Personally, I want the highest quality I can get out the source, hence my process is more compliacted that yours. I am willing to bet that my output is substantially higher quality though.

  6. but I would prefer not to have dvd lab pro demux because its time consuming....if possible avi to an mpeg2 and ac3 stream would be best...

Then you have to learn to do it manually, which involves either mine or jimmalenko's process, or similar. Either that, or don't use DVD Lab Pro. If you want simple processes, use simple tools. TDA would probably suit you better.
