I rebooted the computer to find that generic host thing come up with an option of 'send' or 'don't send'.

Didn't have a clue what it was but i first guess was that software upset it so i restored the registry to yesterday and seems to be fine now. Oh i didnt mention it came up with that error and i was watvching a film from cd and the sound cut out straight away and froze, i then click on the littlke speaker icon on bottom right of screen and it said it wont work unless you install the mixer or something a restart sorted that out until that generic host error came up so then i resored the registry as i mentioned previously.

Anyway i do not get this error anymore but it would be good to know what cuased it and why the sound suddenly went.

the sndvol mixer now works and lets me open it but watching a song video from cd a few minutes ago that just froze and nothing would work on the cd i had to eject it and then put it back in and everything plays fine but its just another worry on top now of what caused that..

It was a very badly written cd it was one of those data write yellows. I'm doing a surface scan now..

But im just left baffled with that generic host error report thing, the sound going and that song vid freezing..ne1 know why it did this??

yes as long as your "restore point" is not damaged. Usuaully some "spyware" tries to change this

    Damn right it does!!

After installing a bit of software yesterday called avast anti virus it picked up so many viruses in system volume information/restore or something??

Is there an anti virus u can recommend better than Avast?

    cheers

  4. NOD32 is the best anti-virus you can get IMO but it isn't free like avast.

AVG is a good scanner. http://www.grisoft.com

Personally On my primary PC I use norton, its not the best scanner but the 2005 editions active shield works really well.
