  1. ya... i know this may sound stupid but ima newbie so it sounds hard to me. I got a DVD-rom drive and so if i rip the dvd with smart-ripper, how do i get the .VOB files converted into a great looking DiVX??????

  2. It's very easy to encode divx, I would recommend using FlaskMpeg once you get the vob files from the DVD rip process.

You'll need to have the codec's installed which would be the divx codec and the mp3 codec. I also recommend using the slow motion divx codec.

If you visit http://www.divx-digest.com/, they have forums similar to this site that will lead you in the right direction for divx encode. Really all you need to use is FlaskMpeg, learn how to use it, and you'll create some awesome looking divx movies.

  3. WHATEVER you do, do not use flaskmpeg. Shudder. Produces real shod out of DivX. Go use a multi pass sbc encoder. The guardian knot linked above is a front end to the tools and with the advent of this new version there is NO excuse to use flaskmpeg anymore.

  6. Yes, xmpeg is pretty nice. Still, I prefer the old Divx, I think the picture still is slightly better.

  7. As I said before and I’ll say again, FlaskMpeg works excellent for me and I encode dvd quality divx movies.

I’ll look into the methods stated and see how they work in comparison.

  8. FlaskMPEG is a nice, simple and quick method, but compared to the results you can get with GuardianKnot and Nandub (SBC encoding) it is just abismal. Beware Gknot can be a little confusing, but doom9 has an excellent guide.

SBC is basically the same as 2 pass MPEG2, the first pass tells the encoder where to put the bits for the second pass, remember though that careful tweaking is in order as with any other powerful tool.
