I love my ILO but I don't like the run-away clock. Does anyone else have a problem with the clock running too fast. I have to reset it about every two/three weeks.

yes its a known problem with the ILO DVDR04, well at least on the forums it is. Mine does it, but maybe not as bad as you. At the end of the week its maybe a minute ahead or something, I heard it gains 20 seconds everyday from some ppl
-
Yeah, mine gets about a minute ahead every week too. I wonder if anyone has contacted the ILO people about it. Maybe a new firmware could be in the works. Who knows? It's no big bother really. Just so I don't forget to reset it now and then. I have to get my fiances' soap recorded on time or else..LOL. I have like 5 clocks in my livingroom so I have plenty of backup.

I remember reading about this on either this forum or the techlio forum, where somebody said a firmware update wont do anything, b/c the time is controlled by a crystal something inside the dvd, its a hardware issue. But I dont know too much about that stuff. Just a quick question, does your ILO's front inputs leave a high pitched sound in the background of your recordings? Mine does, the rear inputs are fine though, and the tuner well....I never use
-
Yup...A problem that you cant fix as far as I know.Right now I'm 32 mins ahead. But I dont use the timer record so no big deal it is a Pain if you do.

Reading all this crap about shetty tuners, incapable of keeping time, high pitched sounds, etc. make me glad I have my Pioneer 420 :P
I know with these ILOs, the price is right, but it'd drive me crazy. -
Love the way the Pioneer adjust it self to keep exact time!
Bet they are deriving a 1hz **** off of one of the xtals and its not exactly a even division down. Even if they grab the 60 hz from the AC line and dividie down to a second would be better.
Suprising what an extra 100 dollars can buy you. -
I wonder if the clock problem was a bad batch? My ILO was manufactured July 2004 and I'm running the latest firmware. I set the clock when I bought the ILO in January and the clock is still correct.

$100 got me a LOT more than a working clock in this case, though -
Gives a whole new meaning to,"time to buy a new recorder". Other then the Clock I think the unit for the price is great,But I also have 2 others this one belongs to the kids...Kids Time for bed...

For 100 more you get a working clock that set it self to the correct time. Stereo tunner... etc etc etc.
Turn on the option of time and it good enough for goverment work on time tracking! -
Yes solid,,,I get the high pitched sound when recording from the front inputs. I just copied, "King of the Ants", from dvd to dvd+r using the front ports and I'm gonna redo it using the rear ports. I've read where it's a very common problem. I forgot exactly where I read it but it was somewhere here in videohelp.com. I'll just switch between my vcr and my dvd player on the rear ports and not use the front ones. The way I have it hooked up right now is my vcr in the rear and my dvd player in the front. I'll just buy an a/v switcher and hook it up in the rear inputs so I won't have to keep plugging/unplugging my vcr/dvd player.

@ NightWing
I have a JVC s-vhs player. I only recently realized that it set s the time on it
all by itself. I never really noticed this till mid last yearAnyways.
I think that the way a lot of electronic units keep time now is by the TV tuner.
Once you turn it on, it will "eventually" extract the time, and set itself.
Sometimes, it could take a couple of days. But, I suspect that that it because
I had not turned on the VCR to watch tv. But, you have to have the unit on tv
mode, and leave it there for a while till it is good and ready. At least that
is how it is for my JVC vcr, I think.
I haven't set my R04 's timer yet, because I'm still testing out this unit.
(Just got it yesterday)

Check your JVC recorder. Usualy you need to tell it a local PBS channel. They usualy include the time on it. At least my bottom end SVideo JVC deck does this along with the Pioneer.
The iLo is simply comming off of a internal clock thats a bit off. I figured it out a while back. Some where 1.8 or something like that. Heck even my Mac Mini gets the time from the net!
Wish there was a setting to pull it off but I suspect the cheep tunner etc cant have a get time feature.
