I have a jvc 9911 and AVT-8710 hooked up then I run them to my dvd recorder. Ok, I know you cant have the tbc/noise reduction and the video stabilizer on that same time. When I have the digital tbc/nr on my video jumps like crazy. So I figured the full frame tbc in the AVT-8710 would fix this. Allowing me to use the digital tbc/nr and still have the video be stabilized with the AVT-8710. I have tried this and the picture still jumps like mad. I was under the impression that the AVT-8710 would stabilize the video. Am I under a false pretense? If I turn off the tbc/nr on the jvc and turn on the stabilizer, the picture stops jumpy. So what is the AVT-8710 doing. The tape is a multi-generational copy. Any insight would be appreciated.

Some tapes do that.

With Lordsmurfs help and Gshelly as well, I have come to realise that if you are transferring a vhs to dvd, and having your wife naked in the room at the same time helps, go for it.

Why do you feel your tapes NEED the stabilizer on? You say that there's no jumping when the stabilizer is off! Only use it if the tapes are already jumpy/unstable, or you're asking for trouble (believe me, I own the 9911, and the stabilizer has a little bit of a hair trigger). This feature is basically looking for jacked-up EP/SLP speed tapes that were recorded on a different vcr. An SP tape should not need the stabilizer. There is also a thread floating around somewhere in which I noted that using the 9911's built-in TBC in conjunction with a stand-alone full-frame TBC (like the tbc-1000) seems to be less efficient than using either one or the other.

Steen4,
I think you misread my statement without the stabilizer the video jumps. I wanted to use the tbc/nr in the jvc with the full frame tbc of the AVT-8710 at the same time. It just looks like it is one or the other. Back to converting -
On that particular tape it sounds like you won't be able to benefit from the DNR part of the JVC 9911 TBC/DNR circuit... at least by running the "stabilized" image through the AVT-8710, you will have still have a time base corrected, frame synchronized capture and can use the 8710's picture adjustments to tweak the color, black level, luma, sharpness, etc. Be sure to turn off the JVC's "Digital R3" feature... it usually adds too much edge enhancement and grain. The 9911 also should have several picture output settings like "Edit", "Auto", "Soft" and "Sharp". Experiment with those settings. Sometimes using the "Soft" setting then gently boosting the sharpness with an outboard unit like the 8710 will look better than the "Sharp" or "Edit" setting in the VCR.
