  1. Just as the title says, what's your method of doing this? There's so many ways, let's try and find the most popular method and programs.

  2. Assuming the source video is progressive, simply speed it up to 25fps. There are plenty of tools to do this but I tend to use virtualdub. Then encode video only, PAL template, with TmpGenc. Adjust the audio length to match the video with Goldwave 'TimeWarp' function, then encode to whatever format you want/need. Author.

  3. But surely you can't simply "speed it up" as you will have jerky playback.

  4. No, speeding it up is the only way NOT to get jerky playback.

Yes, patch the header to 25 FPS with AVIFrate. If converting to PAL mpg, demux audio before patching (don't know if it's necessary to do that before patching, but better safe than sorry!), decode to wav, speed up audio to match patched AVI length, encode with patched AVI as video source, shortened wav as audio source.

  6. Don't forget to resize it. Since you are going to PAL, it will be 576 lines for DVD and SVCD or 288 for VCD.

pbar, when film is converted to PAL it is just sped up to 25fps. The slight increase is neglible under most circumstances.

So speeding 23.976fps up to 25fps is the proper way to perform the conversion.

Yes, of course. But since the source is AVI, you'd be plain lucky if resizing wasn't necessary.

  9. Last night I used Procoder. An amazing program. Easy to use yet so complex with what it does with a zillion options if needed. It will convert anything to anything. Converting a 23.976 NTSC AVI to 25fps PAL produced the smoothest playback I have seen. And it adjusted the audio track too, it's in sync 100%. Superb quality. No longer will I be messing with numerous different programs to achieve this.
