It sinks in after a few viewings. Perhaps the most quotable British movie ever.

  2. Yes and it's the dogs nuts.

    "Soup ? Why Haven't I got soup ?"

"The ****** will rue the day !"

"We want the finest wines available to humanity, we wan't them here and we want them now !"

    "I demand more booze !"

You have to watch it more than once. It's all character driven. Richard E Grant is fantastic.

    "Booze ! I demand Booze !"

"Are you a sponge, or a stone ?"

"You shouldn't mix your drinks, Withnail !"

Have you played the Withnail & I drinking game ?

  6. A film I want to see. No idea why I missed it. I loved train spotting.

It's a far superior film to Trainspotting. But, as you are a man of taste, I'm convinced you'll enjoy it, just remember it is a character driven movie.

    EDIT

Is it available down under ?

  8. Thanks.

Yes it seems it is available in the colonies
Rental costs $7.50 Buy costs $9.90. May as
    well buy it.

I prefer character driven movies. I like it less
when pandora's box opens all by itself.

I recall now why I did not see Withnail. I was
having a difficult year at the time. I saw few
films in '87. Not my favorite year. :/

Excellent, I'd like to get your take on this movie. I've also recommended it to george but I don't think he can find it where he is.

Sorry about that - I didn't see the film in '87, I was still slightly too young then to appreciate it fully.

You'll be quoting this film for years to come after you've seen it

I thought Trainspotting was very well done, brings one back down to reality, but why are they being compared here? I do have the "Withnail & I" Criterion Collection because I heard it was so great, but can't seem to sit down to try to watch it again.

Both British I'd imagine ? I dunno you'd have to ask offline. Anyways Trainspotting is good but Withnail is in a different class quite frankly.

Also has the advantage that if you do match Richard E Grant drink for drink you will have no recollection of the movie anyway

If you've read the recent news about Tom Sizemore, you'll understand the connection to "Withnail"
