911 Operator Calls Mother 'Stupid' After Pit Bull Attacks Boy
Mother Says Operator Made Her Feel Like 'No-Good Mom'

CINCINNATI -- A Cincinnati 911 dispatcher faces discipline after a mother who made a frantic call for help said she was outraged by the dispatcher's response.

The mother called to report the family's pit bull had attacked her 18-month-old boy.

The operator quickly dispatched an emergency crew, but she's in trouble for calling the mother and her husband "stupid people," WLWT-TV in Cincinnati reported.

"Like I was to blame, I'm worthless, a no-good mom or something," said the mother, Samantha Osborne.

Osborne said the dog, called JD, had never been aggressive in 10 years with the family.

"He was good with my kids -- all three," she said.

But in a split-second, the pit bull turned on Jesse, attacking his face.

"Three people were right there and the dog out of nowhere went straight for the baby," she said.

Here's what was said when Osborne called 911:

Dispatcher: "What kind of dog attacked him, Samantha?"

Dispatcher, repeating: "What kind of dog attacked him, Samantha?"

Samantha to her husband: "What kind of dog is JD?"

Husband: "He's a pit bull."

Samantha to operator: "He's a pit."

Dispatcher: "Stupid people."

Tom Rapp, the dispatchers' supervisor, called the remark "unacceptable" and said the dispatcher could be suspended.

Even though it's no excuse, Rapp said, emotions do get the best of his dispatchers sometimes.

"Any call you take involving a kid becomes 10 times more emotional. You find yourself wrapped up," he said.

When Osborne listened to a tape of the frantic call again, the entire nightmare was replayed: a little boy scarred for life and a mother trying to overcome the guilt.

"I never want someone else to hear those words from a 911 dispatcher, to feel the way I'm feeling. It's not right," Osborne said.

The little boy is out of the hospital after getting 17 stitches on his eyes and mouth.

The family dog was put down.

That's just wrong. I don't see anything wrong with what the dispatcher said. I'm going through a simiilar situation. My sister just got a pitbull supposedly for her 1 year old to play with.

I can't understand why people insist on getting these foul-tempered, aggressive and downright nasty dogs. Granted, there are some exceptions (since every dog is different) but in general these dogs really are no good.

The operator was quite right, and people shouldn't be making such a fuss when someone speaks the plain truth. That woman is stupid.

Nonsense - Pit Bulls have been given a terrible time in the press recently and the baaa baaa crowd have been drawn right in. Golden Retrievers bite more often and with more severity than the average Bull.

Anyone who has had a dog for any length of time knows that you have to watch them around children.

We have a Yorkshire Terrier...he's a whopping 7 pounds and a walk from the couch to the chair clearly wears him out. He's a great dog and has a great demeaner, very loving, very passive...my brother came over, my niece was with him, and the Yorkie went nuts and tried to attack her. Why? Who knows. He can't bite hard enough to hurt anything but still. I've had a Rott and Doberman before, I didn't trust them around me or adult company, let alone a child.

It's an 18 month old BABY you dumb Cincinnati fucks. You are stupid Northern Kentucky inbreads. Of course you have to watch a 18 month old around a dog and not just a pit bull any type of dog you dumbasses get the **** out of my state, you are making the rest of us look bad.

Dogs bite...that's what they do....

You don't read in the paper where a pet snake was put to sleep for biting it's owner do you? Or a pet aligator? **** no...because people who own those pets know full good and well that they will bite. If you have a pet Cobra and you get bit, first you die, but no one else is thinking "damn snake" put it down...everyone is all thinking the same thing "serves his dumbass right for having a pet cobra".

I wouldn't own a Pit, but I don't think the dog is to blame either...animals as much as we try to convince ourselves that they are part of the family...are still animals and act and react on instinct.

The last dog we had besides the one we had was a black lab/akita cross. He was the best-tempered dog I ever knew. THE best dog we ever had 8)

amen, glock.... you got it right on the head with this one... I have a 3 yr old black lab and my 10 month old and 5 yr old just love that dog to death... she is the most patient dog I have had since my Saint Bernard... pulls her collar and the lab just looks at you with love in her eyes and a sort of smile.... love that dog... didn't train her a bit and she listens better than the wife!!
