There's a question thats been bugging me. I understand about the releasing of region 1's so that they can't be veiwed in Europe where the movie is still being aired in the theatres, followed so many months later by the region 2 release etc, but what I don;t understand is why they do this with OLD movies, 20 or 30 years old, classics, that get released on dvd. Why do they bother with region 1, followed much later, and sometimes never, with region 2 ? They are not current theatre movies, so why don't they just release them region free worldwide ? Anyone know the answer to this ?

    Hello,

I believe it's so they have to pay the local dealers and not buy from other countries. I think I remember reading them trying to stop dvd imports to Europe to make them buy the movies locally....
