  1. Does anyone know if there is a way to make the volume louder when you make a backup of your DVD? I know volume is notoriously low on DVDs (mainly spoken dialogue) to begin with, but is there any program or way to increase it so you don't have to turn your TV up about 20% every time you view them? I use DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink, and Image Burn and I don't know if there is any way with them or if there is another program I'm not using that can do it. Thanks! Jay

You can't do it. You would have to pull the DVD apart, change the audio, them rebuild it. Volume isn't low on DVD. It has a much greater dynamic range than TV or CDs, so the difference between soft and loud is much wider. Think of this way. If dynamic range was measured as a distance, on TV the distance between a pin dropping and a nuclear explosion would be about 1 inch, whereas on a DVD the same sounds would 100 feet apart.

Look at the setting on your player, or amp if you have one, and see if there is a DNR (dynamic noise reduction) setting or midnight listening mode. This should compress the range and make it seem louder.

  3. Thx for the info guns1inger....I didn't think you could..but was worth asking anyways...It really is a pain that music and sound effects are always MUCH louder than voice/speech dialogue...I'll look into what you said about player settings...Jay
