  1. I'm trying to do a conversion from xvid to Mpeg 2. At first, tmpgenc would not read the files. After following the sticky guide I managed to get it to read the files, by doing this
right click on the DirectShow Multimedia File Reader and increase the priority to 2 or to the top of the plugin-list and try reopen the video.
I also downloaded and ran all the auto install for all of the codecs.

Now whenever I try to convert this Xvid, I get a windows error that cannot find some dll like "mpg4dmod.dll"

Do I need to install the codecs to the tmpg folder... or is something else wrong?

    Any help is appreciated

EDIT: I had the dll error listed as "mpg4enc" when it really was "mpg4dmod.dll"

mp4enc.dll? For dshow the files required should be xvidcore.dll and xvid.ax. For VFW, xvidvfw.dll and xvidcore.dll. Don't know where mpg4enc.dll comes in as from the sounds of the name it involves encoding, not decoding.

  3. Is there some kind of huge codec pack I can download? Or would it maybe be possible to get a plug-in for premiere pro that allows me to import Xvid / Divx files?

Huge codec packs = Nightmare of all things. The more codecs you install, the more likely problems are to occur.

Use the Tools link on the left to check for codecs. I only install Xvid (1.0.3 current stable, 1.1 beta is for encoding), DivX (free playback only ad-free 5.2.1), The Real Alternative, QuickTime Alternative, Matroska 1.0.3 (only needed for playback of MKV files), and ogg/ogm support.

If simple conversion is all that is needed, you might try VSO DivxToDVD.

  5. What does VSO DivxtoDVD convert to? Vob, m2v, etc?

Why not click the link and find out? :P
It converts DivX/XviD *.avi (and probably other sources) to MPEG 2, it is a "one click" program, but seems to get a lot of praise.

It will not provide as many features or as much control as using seperate tools, but might be worth a shot.

  7. I checked it out... looks like I need a bit more control over bitrate and whatnot... TMPGenc is ideal

I replaced the dll, yet I still recieve the same error message now... keep any ideas coming.

"Corona Windows Media MPEG-4 Video Decoder"?
No reason why you should need that for XviD or MPEG2.
Perhaps you have a MS MPEG4/DivX3 source? If so try enabling ffdshow for them.

  10. You can download the mpg4mod.dll athttp://www.dlldump.com/download-dll-files.php/dllfiles/M/mpg4dmod.dll/download.html. I would also open the file in avicodec and see if you have the proper codecs installed. Avicodec is freeware and is listed in the tools section.

  12. Can VirtualDubMod read the file?
If it can, you can frameserve the file with VDubMod to TmpgEncPlus.

  13. Virtual dub mod can read the file... is there a way to use it to batch convert?

  14. Open several instance of VDMod. Batch encode with TmpgEncPlus.
