  1. VIDEO EDITING: ulead media studio pro 7, sony vegas 5, adobe priemier pro

DVD AUTHORING: ulead dvd workshop 2, sony dvd architect 2, adobe encore dvd

I am going to author a dvd using video from digital camcorder, camera, and commercial dvd. I want to rip certain chapters from dvd-videos. My understanding is i need a ripper program like dvddecrypter in addition to the programs above to rip .vob files from dvd and that dvddecrypter will allow me to rip certain parts. It is my understanding though that i probably cant import .vob files into video editing software, but only dvd authoring programs. However i want to get it into the video editing program because it seems i will have more editing tools and capabilities. I think to do this i will need to demux the video and audio into separate mpeg and ac3 files. Will any of the programs above do this or do i need something else. After i get this done I should use a video editing program to create one big mpeg2 file (the main movie) and one ac3 file to go with it. Then import them into the authoring software and create my menus and write the dvd. Is this correct?

Also, i am of the understanding that ifo files only tell the dvd how to play the vob files. So if i am ripping vob files from a dvd i wont need the ifo files since i will be authoring my own dvd. i would only need them if i wanted to recreate a dvd-video and modify how it played (ie what order etc.) Is this correct? Thanks for the help!
