    Hi,

I have the same version of Media Player Classic (6.4.8.2) on two Windows XP machines. One plays MPEG2 files just fine, the Laptop has display problems. Some parts only show black and white, others show one color as if the width of the video was twice the actual width.
    Example to make it clearer:
Let's assume I have the number "123" on my screen as part of the video, and they are white on black background. I may show a different color, and additionally I may have an orange copy of the numbers further to the right and approximately twice as wide. I hope that makes it clearer.

I used gSpot to find out if I am missing a codec, and at first it did say that I had no codec to play MPEG2. Then I did the same on my other PC (where it works), identified the two MPEG2 codec files, copied them to the Laptop and used regsvr32 to register them. Even after a restart it didn't work.
Then I thought the codecs might have come with an old version of ShowShifter that I had only installed because it includes a free MotionJPEG codec. So I installed the same version on the Laptop, but again no success, even after a restart.

gSpot does not show any difference between the PCs in rendering the file - both use the same sequence of splitters and codecs to render, but MPC does not render it correctly on one of the PCs.

The MPEG Decoder settings in MPC is the same on both PCs.

I have not played with Overrides yet since
    1. I don't know if MPEG codecs show up in there and
    2. gSpot says that the same codec is used on both PCs and
    3. I don't know what other codec might be interfering (if any).

The file I have been trying plays fine in PowerDVD and Windows Media Player, but I don't like either of them very much - I prefer MPC, so I'd like to get this to work.

I posted this question on MPC's forum, but no response - it does not look like there are many replies on that forum to any post...

Since there are tons of people reading and writing here, I hope someone here can help me.

    Thanks!

Uncheck the MPEG2-VideoDecoder choice under options, and MediaPlayerClassic will use the 3rd party one you installed.

    Thanks for the answer.

I tried it - and now it hardly plays at all. It freezes if I press a button and plays the first second slow, and it is way brighter than before.

I suppose I should go back to MPC's MPEG2 codec.

Any idea where that color shift could come from ?

I just tried Playback - Output - DirectShow Video - Old Renderer instead of System Default, and now the colors work, but the video picture is about 1/5 smaller and has a black border on all sides except left, even in Full Screen. I attach the Laptop to a TV to watch, so that's no good either...

I am still having the same problem.
If I use MPC's MPEG2 codec, I have these color shifts, if I use another, it is too slow.

    Any suggestions?

    Maybe there's another MPEG2 codec I can use on a P3 500MHz PC?
