Anyone know how to automatically record a complete program on sky digital (without sky+) with a timer?

If I use the auto view function it quite often chops off the beginning of the program or pastes the blue title bar across the bottom. I can't seem to find any manual timer screen...

My HD recorder does not have sat control.

The other option would possibly be an IR remote that had a timer in and you could program it to switch both units on, change the channel & start recording etc - but I can't seem to find such a beast!

Get Sky+, you won't regret it!

But even with Sky+, the recordings only start and stop according to the same EPG info as available on the normal Sky boxes. The advantage though is you can set the device to 'pad' the recording by several minutes (user configurable) at each end to try and avoid problems with EPG and programme times not matching.

Sorry I can't help any further.

I'd love sky+ but I have just spent 300 quid on a HD/DVD recorder and I don't think the missus would be best pleased if I bought sky+ as well...

I did consider sky+ but as it's difficult to get the recordings off (I like to archive my programs I wish to keep in DivX format) I opted for a HD recorder instead. If sky dropped the 10 per month extra charge I might consider it!

The pioneer 420 has very good editing facility - I can record, remove adverts & trim to the correct size with frame accuracy and copy to a RW and then encode to DivX on the PC.. If I'm keen I could have the program encoding with half an hour 8)
