i am looking for the best possible resolution for capturing mpegs between 2 hours and 30 mins and 3 hour movies
i tried creating a 2 hour and 30 minute movie but the bit rate calculator spits out the wrong bit rate and i get a message from tmpegenc dvd author stating the file maybe to big to fit on a 4.7 dvdr.
the resolution i am capturing in is 720x480 for my movies.
would it be best to capture in 352x480 and choose the highest possible bitrate for a 3 hour movie or 2 hour and 30 minute movie??
please help i am use to capturing 2 hour movies at 720x480 but anything beyond that limit i get artifacts and errors please help!!

From this Bitrate Calculator, assuming 224kbps audio:
2.5 hours = 3837kbps
3 hours = 3159kbps
If you're looking at only doing a quick n dirty transfer and dump to DVD with minimal to no editing or filtering, I'd go with 352 X 480 @ 3700kbps for 2.5 hours and 3000kbps for 3 hours. This "buffer" below the calculated bitrates then leaves you room for a decent menu, and means that you're not at the bleeding edge of the media. If in doubt, Google it. -
352x480
