I have installed all the codecs, and I still get an error when trying to open a .avi file, its says illegal stream format. Its a DivX file, and the propertiesof the file are as follows, IMAGE: Width:640 Height:304 AUDIO: Duration:1:36:52 Bit Rate 96kbps Audio Format MPEG Layer-3 VIDEO: Frame Rate 25 frames/sec Data Rate: 121kbps Video Sample Size 24bit Video Compression DIVXMPG4 V3 what I wnat to do is put this on to two VCD's beccause it wont fit on one, I tried with VirtualDub, AviChop, and TMPG Enc. and I haven't been able to do it. If someone would help that would be great THanks!

Try loading it into Vdub, and re-save the AVI (Streaming) or try a change in the codec when saving (full processing).
Then re-load into TMPGEnc (Set source range) do half at a time, for 2 mpeg files (VCD template)
if it does not load in Vdub either, you have a missing codec.

try what letmeinforgodsake but instead of resaveing it just frameserve it to TMPGEnc that will save you alot of time

I've solved this problem by installing the DivX
3.11a, which can be found among the tools on this site. For playing you can still use DivX 4.11 with the install option to play DivX 3 files. My feeling is that TmpgEnc does support DivX 3 using a DivX 4 codec.
